A new piece of fan art turns a beloved Hollywood star into the Ghost Rider from Marvel Comics in a fan casting that would put Ryan Gosling in the mantle for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Instagram account for an artist named Arman Official shared an image of the Barbie star dressed in a spiked leather biker jacket with half his face taking the form of a skull, much like the titular Marvel Comics hero. In the photo’s caption, the artist describes the image as “Ryan Gosling (literally me) as the Ghost Rider,” playing off the ongoing internet joke that Ryan Gosling typically plays idealized male characters in many of his films.

Jokes aside, however, there have been rumors for a while of the Oscar-nominated star coming to the MCU, with current Marvel movie head Kevin Feige reportedly open to the idea due to Gosling’s A-list status and the fact that he makes so many headlines. Though he was rumored to play the cosmic superhero Nova, fans were quick to point out notable missing characters from Marvel Comics that the actor could portray, with Johnny Blaze, the original Ghost Rider, being the most popular choice by a mile.

Of course, this is all fan speculation, as the actor has yet to reveal any solid plans to make his way into the world of Marvel movies as he waits on a potential Academy Award for his role as Ken in Barbie. Not to mention that Gosling does have some competition for the role among fans, as some have similarly petitioned for stars like Norman Reedus or Keanu Reeves to take on the role instead.

Nicolas Cage Addresses Potential Ghost Rider Return: ‘It Could Be Fun’

Nicolas Cage reveals that he could be fun to return as superhero Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

Ghost Rider has technically existed in the MCU before, played by The Last of Us’ Gabriel Luna, though he took the form of Robbie Reyes, one of Johnny Storm’s successors from the comic books, in the Agents of SHIELD television series. However, that show was previously stated to no longer be canon to the MCU, making Ghost Rider’s appearance in it mostly unofficial and leaving the role open for his actual debut in a later project. Nicolas Cage also famously portrayed the character in the 2007 live-action film, which came out before the MCU even existed.

As of now, there are no official plans to introduce Ghost Rider into the MCU, though some fans have speculated that the upcoming Blade film may serve as a way to bring Johnny Blaze into the fold officially. That film has faced a troubled production, with lead star Mahershala Ali reportedly almost walking out of the project at one point, but it is currently slated for a 2025 release.
