Marvel has come so far. With Phase Five, which will feature all the Marvel Studios productions set to be released from 2023 to early 2025, there’s no doubt Marvel has made a buzz in the superhero world. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures is responsible for distributing the films, while the series releases are on Disney+.

But it won’t be wrong to say that the Avengers franchise itself helped grow the popularity of superhero movies. The spectacular superhero ensemble, no doubt, deserves an Oscar for their performances.

But the question is, have any of these Avengers won Oscars in real life, too? Some have, but some missed with the accolade. So, here is a list of every Avenger actor who has received Oscar nominations for their works besides superhero performances.

Jeremy Renner is best known for paying Clint Barton / Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has two Academy Award nominations. First for Best Actor in The Hurt Locker (2008) and second for Best Supporting Actor in The Town (2010).

Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo played Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the MCU. The actor has received three nominations. First for  Best Actor in a Supporting Role for The Kids Are All Right (2010). And two nominations for Best Supporting Actor in Foxcatcher (2014) and Spotlight (2015).

Chadwick Boseman

Even though Chadwick Boseman is not with us today, he has achieved international fame for playing Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from 2016 to 2019. The late actor has earned a posthumous Best Actor Oscar nomination for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.


Robert Downey Jr.

Those who are acquainted with Marvel movies must know who Robert Downey Jr is. As it’s all started with him. He played Tony Stark/Iron Man in the movie of the same name in 2008.

RDJ is another famous actor with two Academy Award nominations but no wins. The Oppenheimer star was nominated for the Best Actor award for his role in Chaplin in 1992. He then received another nod for Best Supporting Actor in Tropic Thunder.

James Rhodes was first portrayed by Terrence Howard and later by Don Cheadle. The character was initially shown as a U.S. Air Force officer and Tony Stark’s best friend. Cheadle was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal in the Hotel Rwanda (2004).

Bradley Cooper

Though Bradley Cooper didn’t feature himself physically in the MCU, he provided the voice of Rocket Raccoon. The actor who voiced the character was nominated for a total of nine Oscars. It includes four nods for acting in movies: Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, American Sniper, and A Star Is Born. But he hasn’t received any as of now.

Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch played Dr. Stephen Strange in Doctor Strange (2016). He then reprised his roles in other Marvel flicks. It includes a stand-alone film for the character and its sequel. The Hollywood star received two Oscar nominations for Best Actor in The Imitation Game (2014). And another for The Power of the Dog (2021).

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson‘s box-office success came with her role as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in eight Marvel films. She received two Academy Award nominations till now. First for Best Actress in Marriage Story (2019) and second for Best Supporting Actress in Jojo Rabbit (2019).

Brie Larson

Brie Larson is known for her portrayal as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, in MCU. She first appeared in 2019’s Captain Marvel and was seen in Avengers: Endgame. She reprised her role in the recent Captain Marvel movie The Marvels. The actress has received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in The Room (2015). And fortunately, she ended up receiving it.
