New information has emerged that sheds light on the role Aubrey Plaza will play on the upcoming Disney+ series. The specifics of Plaza’s Marvel role have been under wraps, sparking intense speculation among dedicated fans as they attempt to find out more about the plot of Coven of Chaos. According to a report by Mashable which has since been updated with said information removed, Plaza’s character will be an original creation for the show named Rio Vadal.

While Rio Vadal is not from Marvel Comics, there is speculation the character might bear a resemblance to the Green Witch stories from the comics, specifically the Emerald Warlock Dian. This character, deeply rooted in Irish mythology, holds dominion over the magic of Earth Mother Gaeat, the sister of Chthon, also known as the creator of Chaos Magic. The character is expected to be a formidable adversary to further expand the magical spectrum introduced through characters like Agatha and Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch).

Ever since Plaza’s casting was announced in November 2022, only a few details about her character have been shared. According to some reports, her character will have a relationship with Agatha Harkness. Plaza herself offered hints about her character, remarking, “Coven of Chaos was so fun. I wanted very much to work with Kathryn Hahn, I think she’s so great. And without saying anything really, I had a blast. I loved my character in that as well, and I think it’s the most elevated Marvel material that’s out there. So, it was cool to jump into that world with those people specifically.”

Described as a dark comedy, Coven of Chaos center on Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn, and will reportedly involve her quest to locate Billy Maximoff, also known as Billy Kaplan in the comics, who is believed to have experienced a “reincarnation.” The series will feature familiar faces from WandaVision alongside new characters, including Emma Caulfield Ford as Sarah Proctor, Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis, David Payton as John Collins, David Lengel as Harold Proctor, Asif Ali as Abilash Tandon, Amos Glick as Dennis, Brian Brightman as Sheriff Miller, and Kate Forbes as Evanora Harkness.
