Wolverine’s True MCU Replacement Joins The MCU In New Deadpool 3 Fan Art

The Marvel Cinematic Universe finds a perfect new Wolverine to take over for Hugh Jackman’s Logan through new Deadpool 3 fan art. One of the most highly anticipated installments in Phase 5 will be Ryan Reynolds’ return as Wade Wilson in Deadpool 3. While story details for Deadpool 3 are being kept under wraps, Hugh Jackman will be reprising the role of Wolverine for the first time since 2017’s Logan, which finished his character’s journey.

With the world paying attention to what is coming out about Deadpool 3 through set photos, discussions have naturally turned to what else audiences could hope to see in the film. Within this vein, artist Arifinity shared new artwork of what Dafne Keen could look like as X-23 in the MCU as part of Deadpool 3, with a similar costume to Jackman’s Wolverine.

Keen, who was 13 at the time when the movie was made, had her breakout role in Logan, with her performance as Laura getting some substantial praise. To this point, there have been no confirmations whether or not Keen’s X-23 will be one of the returning Fox-Marvel characters in Deadpool 3, but with other Marvel characters set to appear, the chance of her return is more potent now than ever.

Ever since Logan, many have been wanting to see Keen come back as X-23, but once 20th Century Fox was acquired by Disney – which led the X-Men movie rights to be reverted to Marvel Studios – it didn’t look possible for her to return to the role. However, with Deadpool 3 looking to integrate Wade into the larger MCU, the trilogy’s finale would not only be a good time to bring Laura back, but potentially even make her an integral part of the franchise. Deadpool 3 is seemingly tackling different timelines, which is likely how they will explain Jackman returning as Wolverine.

Since Logan took place several years in the future, time travel could be a way to bring Keen’s now older version of X-23, while also staging a reunion between her and Wolverine in Deadpool 3. However, with Marvel Studios also looking to do an X-Men reboot movie, Keen could go on to continue playing X-23, serving as one of the few familiar players from the old universe. But at the same time, the MCU can be a fresh start for Laura, since it is fair to say that not every MCU audience member saw Logan, meaning a longer storyline would have to avoid relying too heavily on plot points from the past.

It would also be interesting to see what kind of dynamic the character would have with the MCU’s Wolverine, since it is unlikely Jackman will be a regular player after the Multiverse Saga. How 20th Century Fox’s X-Men universe will be dealt with in Deadpool 3 is still as of yet not clear, but it will be interesting to see it all unfold, to say the least. Hopefully, Marvel Studios will have a Deadpool 3 trailer ready to release to the world sooner rather than later.
