Marvel Comics will kick off Pride Month with a special anthology and a new series of variant covers celebrating their LGBTQIA+ characters. Characters from the Avengers, X-Men, and Spider-Man will be featured in the eight variant covers released throughout the month of June.
This year’s Marvel’s Voices: Pride anthology one-shot will be titled X-Men: The Wedding Special #1, detailing the iconic nuptials of Marvel’s longest-running gay couple, Mystique and Destiny. This year’s Pride variant covers are drawn by Betsy Cola and David Go and show LGBTQIA+ heroes in the Marvel Universe teaming up with the leading heroes of the story on the covers of titles for X-Men #35, Incredible Hulk #13, Scarlet Witch #1, Amazing Spider-Man #52, Captain America #10, Immortal Thor #12, Daredevil #10, and Jackpot & Black Cat #4.

The LGBTQIA+ characters featured in Marvel’s Pride Allies Variant covers include America Chavez, Black Cat, Hulkling and more. Featured on the cover for The Amazing Spider-Man #52 is Northstar, the groundbreaking first openly gay character in Marvel Comics who debuted in The Uncanny X-Men in April 1979. More recently, the character featured in the Fall of X limited series Alpha Flight in 2023.
Marvel’s Pride Anthology Features Publisher’s First Lesbian Wedding
Just in time for Pride Month, Marvel will kick off its celebrations with an annual anthology one-shot, with this year’s issue focusing on two of the most beloved LGBTQIA+ characters in the world of X-Men. As the longest-running gay couple in Marvel’s history, Mystique and Destiny will have their intimate wedding ceremony chronicled in X-Men: The Wedding Special #1, releasing on May 29.
X-Men: Marvel Reveals Which Wolverine is Better Than the Rest
Weapon X-Men confirms the Marvel Universe’s best Wolverine — and there is no slowing her down.
Marvel teases the comic as making history as the publisher’s “first woman-to-woman wedding” and promises there will be lots of action among the romance, with party crashing and villainy unfolding throughout the story. The issue marks the Marvel debuts of award-winning writers Yoon Ha Lee and M. Louis.
Marvel’s Pride Allies variant covers will be released throughout the month of June.
