Despite rumors to the contrary, it seems Brie Larson fully intends to return as Carol Danvers, and The Marvels star teased her next Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance in a new interview…

It doesn’t sound like Brie Larson is planning on stepping away from her role as Captain Marvel anytime soon.

After debuting as the character in the first Captain Marvel movie and making memorable appearances in Avengers: Endgame, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the Ms. Marvel season finale’s post-credits scene, Larson reprises her role as Carol Danvers in Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels.

Danvers, along with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, manages to put an end to Dar-Benn’s villainous machinations and returns to Earth to help the Khan family relocate to the late Maria Rambeau’s home. The ending seems to suggest that she may plan to stay on her home planet for a while, but we’re not sure what comes next for the mega-powerful hero.

During an interview with ET, Larson spoke about her Danvers’ development as a character and teased her MCU future, confirming that she fully intends to return to the role at some point. She also indicates that she knows exactly when and where we’ll see Carol again, but wasn’t about to give anything away.

“I think there is still so much inside of Carol,” Larson began. “I feel like getting to be on this team just cracked her open in a way that she hadn’t been and I really loved that for her.”

“I don’t want Marvel to come for me,” she continued, “but there is something. There is definitely something, to answer your question, that I would want to say, but I am not going to so.”

A recent report claimed that Larson had grown weary of playing Danvers and was “disillusioned” after becoming the target of online backlash. There could still be some truth to this, of course, but if she was thinking about stepping away from the franchise, she appears to have reconsidered.

“In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”

The film also stars Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon. Nia DaCosta directs, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos and Matthew Jenkins serve as executive producers. The screenplay is by Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.
