Iman Vellani, star of The Marvels, loves being involved with Marvel but surprisingly hasn’t watched Dark Phoenix, which is connected to the X-Men universe. Vellani’s decision not to watch Dark Phoenix may be due to its negative reviews and underperformance at the box office. Despite the low critic rating of Dark Phoenix, the audience rating is significantly higher, making Vellani’s choice a personal one.

The Marvels star Iman Vellani relishes her Marvel Cinematic Universe role, but surprisingly, she has no interest in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Week after week, Captain Marvel 2 star Vellani continues to prove how much she loves Marvel and doesn’t shy away from showing her love for the MCU projects during her interviews. Kamala enjoys watching Carol Danvers in action onscreen, and Vellani loves being involved with Marvel behind the scenes. However, there’s one Marvel movie she hasn’t seen yet. Sadly, the project is connected to the X-Men universe.

Speaking in an interview with New Rockstars, Vellani, one of the newest members of the MCU, has revealed that she hasn’t seen X-Men: Dark Phoenix yet. During the interview, Vellani was asked which X-Men universe Teyonah Parris’ character Monica Rambeau was in during The Marvels‘ post-credits scene. The actor replied, “Any X-Men universe is fine – that’s not true! I still refuse to watch Dark Phoenix.”

Vellani became a favorite in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after her start in Ms. Marvel. On the other hand, her role in The Marvels made people believe she is one of the most promising talents in the MCU. Besides her Ms. Marvel role, she gained fame for being a big fan of comic books. In an interview with Variety last year, Vellani had a tough time explaining her journey from Marvel fan to superhero and how she got support from stars like Brie Larson, Simu Liu, and more. She said, “The fact that I have these people by my side is more than I could have ever asked for.”

However, not watching Dark Phoenix is a big step, and she might have her reasons for not watching the film. Dark Phoenix faced a lot of wrath from the critics and audiences. The movie received several negative reviews and didn’t perform well at the box office. Dark Phoenix earned about $252 million worldwide but cost $200 million to produce. Ultimately, Dark Phoenix lost around $133 million, and Fox had to step back from making more X-Men films for a while.

Dark Phoenix is one of the lowest-rated Marvel movies and has a critic rating of 22% on Rotten Tomatoes. But there’s a difference between the critics’ rating and audience score, which sits comfortably at 64%. Vellani’s decision not to watch Dark Phoenix is seemingly personal, and it would be interesting to see what will happen if any of the upcoming MCU projects put Iman Vellani and Dark Phoenix stars in one frame.

The Marvels is currently playing in theaters.
