Summary
As the MCU gears up for its next big release with The Marvels, the final trailers have revealed a notable shot that may pay off a mystery that was ultimately ignored by Thor: Love and Thunder. The Marvels is already set to feature a host of female leads, from its three eponymous protagonists to the main arch-villain, Dar-Benn. Another prominent MCU woman may also be included, however, whose rumored involvement in the movie was recently vindicated by a striking shot in a TV spot that featured the Bifrost.
The Marvels’ most recent trailers have set up Dar-Benn to be a worthy adversary for the mega-powerful Danvers and her newfound cohort of light-based superheroes. Given that the trio are apparently hamstrung by some space-swapping skullduggery, however, a TV teaser sees Danvers calling in help from a “friend.” That friend seems to enter Danvers’ new ship, the Hoopty, via the Bifrost, which suggests that an Asgardian cameo is in store, most likely in the form of Valkyrie.
Thor 4 Set Up Valkyrie’s Queen – And Didn’t Answer It
Valkyrie has played a prominent supporting role in the two most recent solo Thor movies and was bestowed the title of King of Asgard following Thor’s abdication at the end of Avengers: Endgame. While it is common knowledge that Valkyrie, in both the comics and the movies, is a bisexual character, her sexuality has not been explored in depth beyond piecemeal allusions, most recently in Thor: Love and Thunder. This movie was initially teased by Tessa Thompson to delve much further into Valkyrie’s bisexuality and search for a Queen, however.

In an interview preceding the release of Thor: Love and Thunder at 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con Thompson teased that a Valkyrie romance plot was on the cards, stating, “First of all, as king, as new king [of Asgard], she needs to find her queen. So that will be the first order of business. She has some ideas. I’ll keep you posted.” Obviously, Valkyrie’s Queen never materialized, leaving the door open for potential suitors. With this plot thread left hanging in Thor: Love & Thunder, the Bifrost’s appearance suggests that The Marvels will be the one to pick it up and vindicate a longstanding fan theory in the process.
The Marvels’ Unexpected Cameo Can Give Valkyrie Her Queen
Valkyrie has long been rumored to appear in The Marvels already, and the Bifrost’s appearance in a trailer all but confirms it. Even the latest cinematic trailer, which featured Thanos uttering an as-yet unheard line, also featured another shot of the ephemeral “A-Force” lineup during the Battle of Earth. After piecing everything together, it now looks all too apparent that the Asgardian cameo will indeed be Valkyrie – and that she will finally find her Queen in the form of Danvers herself.
How the two characters, with their rather different set of priorities, will navigate such a long-distance relationship remains to be seen. Pairing Danvers and Valkyrie together, however, is a concept that has been cooking for a while, with Captain Marvel producer Mary Livanos, Brie Larson, and Tessa Thompson all fully endorsing the possible romance. From fleshing out this facet of Captain Marvel’s and Valkyrie’s characters to bringing LGBT+ representation in the MCU to the forefront in earnest, there is no doubt this will be a monumental moment for The Marvels to include.
