Summary

The upcoming
Blood Hunt
crossover event promises to irrevocably change the status quo in the Marvel Universe, as the Avengers will face their toughest battle yet, against a supernatural threat unlike anything most of them have faced previously.
Blade, Marvel’s resident vampire hero, may be the key to the Avengers’ survival, or the cause of their downfall in the final battle against the vampires, as the Daywalker takes center stage in a gamechanging Marvel storytelling event.
The Avengers’ lack of experience in facing supernatural threats, along with the horror of a unified horde of vampires rising up when darkness swallows the Earth, making this a battle most of Marvel’s heroes are totally unprepared for.

Marvel’s upcoming Blood Hunt event may be too vicious and violent for the Avengers to survive. Blood Hunt has been teased as Marvel’s next foray into the mature, the gory, and the explicit, as the Marvel Universe is struck by a plague of vampirism. The Civil War-level event is already being set up in comics like Web of Spider-Man, in advance of Blood Hunt #1 hitting stores in May.

Now, Marvel has released details about Blood Hunt #5, the event’s climactic issue, which suggests that the Avengers will “ride into a battle they cannot win.” The press release for the issue also promises “a dramatic shift for the future of the Marvel Universe,” which will certainly stoke months of speculation.

This synopsis makes it clear that the issues of Blood Hunt – and its tie-ins – leading up to the finale can be expected to take a toll on Marvel’s heroes, in particular Earth’s Mightiest, unlike anything the team has faced in their history up to this point.

Blood Hunt Will Be A Turning Point For The Marvel Universe

Blood Hunt #5 – Written By Jed MacKay; Art By Pepe Larraz; Marte Garcia

Many of Marvel’s heroes have dealt with supernatural forces in the past, but this is different…Their success, or ultimate defeat, could come down to the one hero who does know what it means to face the vampire threat: Blade.

Marvel’s solicit for Blood Hunt #5 is dripping with dread, as it reveals:

Doctor Strange is presented with a dread bargain to gain a chance to save the world. The Avengers ride into a battle they cannot win. The dead battle the undead across the globe. Will it be enough? Will the world be saved, and how will it be changed if it is? Featuring a dramatic shift for the future of the Marvel Universe!

These details raise some significant questions regarding the fate of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes coming out of the Blood Hunt event. Potentially, this could mark the death of several (if not all) of its members, or it could mark the destruction of the concept of the Avengers as a unit. One has to think that this speaks to the Avengers being out of their element here, or otherwise, overwhelmed by the vampire threat.

As a team, the Avengers specialize in intergalactic problems; if anything, but facing things that go bump in the night is relatively new territory for most of them. Sure, many of Marvel’s heroes have dealt with supernatural forces in the past, but this is different, as they’ve never had to face such forces on such a global level before. That inexperience could cost them their lives. It also means that their success, or ultimate defeat, could come down to the one hero who does know what it means to face the vampire threat: Blade.

Blade Will Play A Pivotal Role In The Avengers Final Battle

The Daywalker Takes The Spotlight

With the Avengers facing their hardest battle yet, Blade could make or break their survival.

Naturally, the Blood Hunt event is tailored to give Blade a critical role in the Marvel Universe. An opportunity for the character to take center stage in a massive, lore-changing story arc has been long overdue; now that it has come, Blood Hunt could make Blade the Avengers’ savior – or their ultimate downfall. Readers can only guess based on the tantalizing details that have been released so far. As Marvel stated the premise of the event:

On May 18, the next Marvel Comics crossover epic begins! From Avengers and Moon Knight scribe Jed MacKay and acclaimed X-Men artists Pepe Larraz and Marte Gracia comes the bloodiest event in Marvel history–BLOOD HUNT! The saga kicks off when eternal night washes over Earth, and vampires, united by a single vision for the first time in millennia, emerge from the shadows. To keep them at bay, a new world order may need to be put in place…

What that new world order is, and how Blade and the rest of Marvel’s heroes fit into it, remains to be determined.

One would assume that any shortcomings the Avengers have when it comes to the supernatural department should be filled in by their resident Daywalker, Blade. However, Blade has always been reluctant to work with others, even the Avengers, and when he’s expected to lead the charge for this event, alienating people without cohesion could cost them everything. With the Avengers facing their hardest battle yet, Blade could make or break their survival. If the world is doomed during Blood Hunt, the blood of his Avengers teammates may prove to be on Blade’s hands.
