Secret Invasion star Cobie Smulders recently revealed that the Disney+ limited series won’t mark her final appearance as the recently-departed Maria Hill.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Smulders remained tight-lipped regarding Hill’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stating that she does “not make those decisions.” However, Marvel fans can expect to see Smulders continue to voice Maria Hill in the animated Disney Channel series, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. “I’m still working on Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur animated show — I literally recorded some episodes today,” she said. “So I have no idea how or when she’s going to come back around to me, but I’m always welcoming the call.”

Smulders first appeared as high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill in 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers, serving as Nick Fury’s second-in-command. She then appeared as Hill in the ABC superhero drama series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as in the films Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). She also portrayed a Skrull disguised as Hill in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). Besides Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Smulders voiced Hill in the Disney+ series, What If…?.

Maria Hill’s death has not been the only shocking moment in Secret Invasion. At the end of “Promises,” the second episode of the Disney+ limited series, Nick Fury was revealed to be married to a female Skrull. Given how the episode was shot, some fans suspected that Fury was unaware he was married to a Skrull. However, director Ali Selim clarified that Fury knows his wife is a Skrull but that they purposely left it ambiguous in the episode: “In the script, he knows. And when we shot it, it was interesting that maybe he didn’t know. We ultimately edited it in a way that made people feel like, ‘I wonder if he knows or not.'”

Inspired by the popular 2008 Marvel Comics storyline, Secret Invasion follows Nick Fury (MCU veteran Samuel L. Jackson) as he learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a radicalized faction of Skrulls — shapeshifting green-skinned extra-terrestrials that first appeared in 2019’s Captain Marvel. Kingsley Ben-Adir stars as the rebellious Skrulls’ leader, Gravik with the rest of the series ensemble consisting of Don Cheadle as Colonel James Rhodes, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Emilia Clarke as Talos’ daughter G’iah and Olivia Colman as MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth, among others.

The first two episodes of Secret Invasion are now streaming on Disney+.
