Professor X actor Patrick Stewart has teased a return to the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a new interview.

While speaking with Etalk, Stewart was asked about coming back to play Professor X in a future MCU movie. Stewart said, “I cannot put [the rumors of a return] to rest because it’s not a fact either for or against. It is a possibility.” On how he’s already died as Professor X in multiple films, he added, “Hugh Jackman and I looked upon Logan as being our farewell, given that I died in that film, but from what I’ve been told, I’ve died several times already.” Stewart appears to be playing very coy about a comeback, and rumors suggest he could be returning in next year’s Deadpool 3, which also features his X-Men costar Hugh Jackman in a starring role. It’s also rumored he could return for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Patrick Stewart All But Confirms Magneto and Professor X’s MCU Arrival

Patrick Stewart hints that he may be returning to the MCU as Professor X in a future project that also involves Ian McKellen’s Magneto.

Patrick Stewart first played Professor X, also known as Charles Xavier, in Bryan Singer’s first X-Men movie in 1999. He went on to play the famous comic book hero across several movies, and said that he retired from the role after his character’s death in Logan in 2017. Despite that, Stewart came back once again, this time in the MCU, in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, so it feels like a genuine possibility that he could return again soon. Logan was also marketed as Hugh Jackman’s final appearance as Wolverine, yet the Australian actor is coming back again alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. So while the James Mangold-directed film served as a conclusion of sorts to Fox’s X-Men saga, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the actors can’t come back in the MCU.

This isn’t the first time that Stewart has teased an appearance in Deadpool 3, either. Earlier this year, the English actor was asked about Hugh Jackman coming over to the MCU and if he would appear alongside him again, to which Stewart replied “I’ve been told to standby,” before adding, “I know nothing more than that, honest.”
