Nicolas Cage is one of Hollywood’s most prolific actors, but at this stage of his life, the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent star is looking to ease of from appearing in so many films.

Per Entertainment Tonight, Cage addressed how he’s approaching his 60th birthday, which will be on Jan. 7. Upon reaching this milestone, Cage has been thinking about what’s “really important” in his life, and that includes spending more time with his young daughter. Cage and wife Riko Shibata had their first child together in September 2022 after they were married in early 2021. Cage has two sons from previous relationships, but this is his first daughter.

“So, 60’s coming up,” Cage explained. “I’d like to read a book a week. I want to spend more time with my daughter. I’m taking stock of what’s really important. Maybe not make quite as many movies. [Having a baby girl is] profound. Totally new experience. I love it.”

Nicolas Cage doesn’t seem to be suggesting retirement, but rather making less movies than what fans are used to. He’s appeared in no less than six films so far in 2023 alone, most recently for the new dark comedy Dream Scenario. In the film, which will have its wide release on Dec. 1, Cage plays a professor who inexplicably starts showing up in the dreams of many other people. Cage also lent his likeness to a version of Superman shown in The Flash and recently appeared in films like Renfield, Sympathy for the Devil, and The Old Way. A video game verison of the actor was also recently added to the multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight.
