Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has officially gone gold, and to celebrate the new milestone in the development of this sequel, Insomniac Games gathered several of the game’s voice actors to break the news. Both Spider-Men voice actors–Yuri Lowenthal (Peter Parker) and Nadji Jeter (Miles Morales)–were joined by Laura Bailey (Mary-Jane Watson) and Tony Todd (Venom) for the announcement. Jeter was espeically energized, while Todd teased more of his sinister take on Venom with a creepy celebratory line that riffs on the symbiote’s signature catchphrase.

Traditionally, a game going gold means that primary development has wrapped up and it’s ready to be pressed onto a disc or downloaded for play, with no release date delays expected. Studios typically reach this finish line several weeks before a game launches, and with the extra time available, continue polishing the game for its initial release. A day-one patch that contains numerous tweaks and updates to get the product ready for launch isn’t uncommon either.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is shaping up to be a blockbuster return to Manhattan, as early previews for the game have been positive. “As the follow-up to the critically acclaimed and beloved Marvel’s Spider-Man and its Miles Morales-focused pseudo-sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2–a full numbered sequel–looks to be taking everything developer Insomniac created for those two games and bringing it all together in a new experience that also layers on some new ideas atop the strong foundation,” Tamoor Hussain wrote in GameSpot’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 preview.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will launch exclusively for PS5 on October 20. For more details, you can check out everything that we know about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, how much storage space you’ll need on your PS5 for the sequel, and how the new gameplay improvements turn you into an acrobatic improviser.
