With Madame Web just four weeks away from arriving in theaters, we have news on when the first trailer for the upcoming Sony Pictures movie – from the writers of Morbius – will likely be released online…

With Kraven the Hunter pushed back to next August, it’s easy to forget that Madame Web is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters in February. That’s only four months away and, outside of set photos, we’ve seen nothing from the movie.

Somehow, Morbius‘ writers talked themselves into being given another job by Sony Pictures, and the team-up is expected to introduce a whole roster of female Spider-Heroes, including a pregnant Mary Parker who is targeted by Ezekiel Sims.

It appears the studio is planning to explain why the Venomverse has no Spider-Man, with the aforementioned set photos confirming the action takes place in the early 2000s (we’re hoping the story doesn’t end with anything as goofy as Aunt May and a young Peter being sent to the MCU’s Earth-616).

Now, we have news on a planned trailer release as Maxblizz is reporting it will drop next Monday, October 23.

According to the site, “Sony Pictures will join other major studios in a presentation at ShowEast 2023…in Miami, Florida, from October 23rd to 26th/…which features film screenings, sponsored events, and the ShowEast expo. It brings movie industry leaders together to shape the future of cinema.”

Based on the wording of the report, we’d assume the plan is for it to also be released online.

Talking earlier this year, Madame Web producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura explained, “It’s a different kind of movie in that universe. It’s almost, in a way, more of a thriller.” He’d add that, “it’s not an action piece, because, in a way, [Madame Web’s] skill set is not conducive to an action piece.”

Adding that the character’s “clairvoyance is a tricky skill set,” di Bonaventura went on to say that Sony is looking to keep as many of the movie’s secrets under wraps as possible.

Over the summer, the producer also confirmed Madame Web will explore who the title character was before we meet her in the comics, a similar approach to, you guessed it, Morbius. The movie definitely has potential, but Sony has yet to deliver a truly great live-action Spider-Verse project not made in partnership with Marvel Studios.

Madame Web features a cast that’s led by Dakota Johnson as the title character, with Adam Scott, Emma Roberts, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, and Zosia Mamet set to join her.

S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) is directing Madame Web from a screenplay by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. As of now, the movie is expected to swing into theaters on February 16, 2024.
