Kit Harington recently revealed that he does not know what Marvel Studios has planned for the Black Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In an interview with Screen Rant, while promoting his upcoming movie Blood for Dust, which is out April 19, 2024, in theaters and on digital, the actor shared that he has been left in the dark about his character’s MCU future.

“I hope that they do something with that character,” Harington said. “I think that character is fascinating and brilliant. And I love his trajectory in the comics. I love the idea of a good guy being turned bad by his superpower. I think that’s brilliant. I’m not sure whether we’ve had a protagonist that’s like that, so I think it’s a really strong idea. I’d love them to [revisit him].”

He continued, “I don’t know, though. The honest answer is nothing’s in the works at the moment. If they decide to use the character in something, or as a solo thing, I’d be very excited by it. But I don’t think it’s planned at the moment.”

Harington made his MCU debut in the 2021 movie, Eternals, appearing as history professor Dane Whitman, the boyfriend of Sersi. While Harington’s Whitman didn’t do much in the movie, the post-credits scene did tease his future as the superhero, Black Knight. In the scene, Whitman opens a box containing the Ebony Blade, a mystical and cursed sword that has been passed down through his family. However, before he can grab it, the off-screen voice of Blade (Mahershala Ali) asks Whitman if he is ready to wield the Ebony Blade and become the next Black Knight.

Blade’s inclusion in the Eternals post-credits scene had many fans speculating that Harington would return as the Black Knight in Marvel Studios’ forthcoming Blade reboot movie. However, in July 2023, the actor put to rest rumors of a Blade/Black Knight team-up, telling those in attendance at San Antonio’s Superhero Comic Con that Dane Whitman “was never meant to be in the Blade movie and isn’t,” explaining that it was all a “misunderstanding.”

Eternals is streaming on Disney+.
