Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 implicitly addresses complaints about its assortment of equippable costumes by featuring over 65 alternative costumes, including fan favorites from comics, movies, and TV, as well as exclusive costumes to the Insomniac universe. The game improved its map and HUD features, making it easier for players to locate challenges to unlock costumes. Pre-ordering the game also grants early suit unlocks for both Peter and Miles. The Suit Styles mechanic allows fans to equip alternate color palettes for their unlocked suits, giving them the opportunity to create their preferred suits and potentially address any overlooked costumes.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to address many fan complaints from the original title. While Marvel’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales are both highly acclaimed, that has not stopped fans from requesting a few improvements moving forward. Among the most prevalent complaints are those pertaining to the series’ assortment of equippable costumes. Spider-Man has a long history of unique and obscure suits, and while the games offer fans many options, it would be nearly impossible to include enough costumes to satisfy all fans. However, this month’s PlayStation State of Play featured a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 overview in which it addressed its revamped costume system.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sees Peter Parker and Miles Morales face off against some of the franchise’s most popular villains, including Kraven the Hunter and Venom. Kraven is on a mission to hunt the many heroes and villains that inhabit New York City, and it will be up to the Spider-Men to stop him. To do so, Peter will embrace the symbiote in some capacity, gaining its strength but losing his inhibitions. It’s currently unknown how this change will affect Peter and his relationships, but with the character of Venom confirmed, it appears that the symbiote will break free of its host at some point, and meanwhile players will have many optional suits at their disposal.

Spider-Man 2 Features an Incredible Array of the Heroes’ Costumes

During the State of Play, Insomniac confirmed that over 65 alternative costumes will be featured in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. These costumes will cover a myriad of sources, drawing from the long history of Spider-Man’s costumed appearances. Fan-favorite costumes from across comics, movies, and television will be featured. Additionally, there appears to be a wide range of costumes exclusive to the Insomniac universe, much like the original title.

Unlocking Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s many costumes will require fans to complete challenges and story content from throughout the title’s massive open world. To help locate these challenges, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has improved many of the original’s map and HUD features, including the Friendly Neighborhood app and the Spider-Men’s mask AR visuals. Additionally, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 offers early suit unlocks as part of its pre-order bonus. This bonus includes suits for both Peter and Miles, giving fans of both heroes the chance to customize either character.

Spider-Man 2’s Suit Styles System Will Open the Floodgates

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s alternative costumes will certainly include some fans’ top requests, but it still can’t hope to satisfy every request. To address these fans’ complaints before they can even happen, Insomniac has created the Suit Styles mechanic for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Suit Styles let fans equip alternate color palettes for their unlocked suits, adding depth to customization and opening the door to overlooked costumes. Using alternative coloring and customization, fans can modify an available suit to reflect those not featured in the game’s collection.

This mechanic embodies Insomniac’s understanding of fans’ top wants, which bodes well for other past complaints to be addressed across the title’s expansive narrative and open world. While not every Spider-Man suit will be available, colorway and appearance variants go a long way to offer fans the means of seeing their hopes manifest in-game. Should players want to get a head start on their costume collections, they should be sure to pre-order Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Using Suit Styles, this brief head-start lays the groundwork for fans to create their preferred suits.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases on October 20, exclusively for PS5.
