MCU’s Thunderbolts, which was announced at Disney’s D23 expo back in 2022 seem to be suffering one disappointment after another. First, it was pushed back due to the dual strike in Hollywood just like many other projects. MCU is still looking for Kang’s replacement and amidst all these, Steven Yeun dropped out of this much-anticipated project citing scheduling conflicts.

With him out, there appeared many names to star as Sentry. Fans have already speculated actors like Alexander Skarsgård, Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, and some others in the role. A recent report suggested that the MCU would be offering the role of Sentry to a 27-year-old actor. However, it’s been said that even this actor passed this project.

Thunderbolts is one of the most hyped-up upcoming movies in the MCU. Besides being a team-up movie after a long time in the MCU. However, the exit of The Walking Dead actor Steven Yeun was a significant blow to the upcoming Marvel movie. He was the top choice of most of the Marvel fans and the news broke many hearts.

And then, it has been reported that Marvel wants another The Walking Dead star, Austin Abrams as Sentry in Thunderbolts. Abrams played Ron Anderson in the fifth and sixth seasons of the AMC zombie series, as well as Ethan Daley in Euphoria and Dash in Dash & Lily, apart from starring in films such as The Kings of Summer, Paper Towns, and Chemical Hearts.

Meanwhile, the latest report emerges from insider Daniel Richtman that even Abrams has passed the role. He has been a part of numerous projects, though in small roles. And,  fans were concerned about how an actor like him would play a character like Sentry, one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Comic Book Universe.

Other cast members in Thunderbolts include Florence Pugh, Harrison Ford, Wyatt Russell, Ayo Edebiri, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan and Hannah John-Kamen. 

Fans React to Reported Exit of Austin Abram as Sentry

Now that Austin Abrams is the latest to pass Sentry, it will be interesting to see what move Marvel takes next. In the meantime, fans took no time to express their thoughts on X, formerly known as Twitter. While some say that even an actor like Abram now turns down Marvel’s offer, many still think Steven Yeun was the best choice and Marvel could not get him on board.

Austin Abrams in The Walking Dead (2010)

Helmed by director Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts was initially eyeing a release date in July 2024. However, due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, the Marvel Phase #6 film was pushed to a one-year delay, with its current release date on July 25, 2025.
