The next iteration of the Avengers in the MCU’s Phase 6 will feature new leaders, as depicted in fan art by @ultraraw26 on Instagram. Possible candidates to lead the new Avengers team include Doctor Strange, Sam Wilson as Captain America, Shuri as Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Spider-Man. There is also the possibility of having a team with multiple leaders or a new trinity leading the Avengers in the upcoming MCU movies.

The next iteration of the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets three new leaders in gripping fan art. After Phase 4 ended without an Avengers film, and with the ongoing Phase 5 set to follow suit, the MCU’s Phase 6 will see the new version of the Avengers debut in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and return for Avengers: Secret Wars. While there are some heroes who appear as surefire choices for the MCU’s next Avengers team, there has been no official word on the roster of the new Avengers for the team’s upcoming MCU movies.

On Instagram, artist @ultraraw26 imagined who the leaders of the MCU’s New Avengers could be.

The fan art sees the MCU’s prior Trinity — Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor — who led the MCU’s Avengers movies so far, be replaced with other MCU heroes who have either debuted or gotten new roles in recent years. Shang-Chi, Sam Wilson as Captain America, and Shuri as Black Panther appear as the leaders of the MCU’s New Avengers in the fan art, with Galactus looming in the background.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty‘s team leader could be one of multiple MCU heroes, though some have better chances than others. As the next two Avengers movies will deal directly with Kang the Conqueror variants and the multiverse, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange appears as one of the best candidates to lead the team. After Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the hero has the necessary knowledge to lead the New Avengers as they save the multiverse, especially since he was last seen going to stop an Incursion.

Some other characters who have been developed over the years in the MCU are Sam Wilson and Shuri. With their new roles as Captain America and Black Panther, respectively, they have shown that they could lead the next generation of the Avengers. Sam could succeed Steve as the leader of the Avengers, operating with a strong moral compass that is hard to match. In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shuri managed to protect her nation and defeat a formidable threat in Namor and his Talokanil army, and as she decided not to be Wakanda’s Queen, she could lead the Avengers instead.

Other characters who could become the new leader of the Avengers are Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, with the MCU possibly choosing to have its most powerful hero serve as the leader of the universe’s most important team, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Despite being young — just out of high school — Peter Parker has a lot of experience, having helped the Avengers defeat Thanos and showing his growth against multiple multiverse villains in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The upcoming Avengers movies could also decide not to have a single leader, making the MCU’s next Trinity serve as co-captains of the team, which could be exciting, and options for that trio are aplenty.
