Summary

The MCU’s Multiverse Saga has struggled and broken negative records, indicating problems with recent projects. Mads Mikkelsen, who played Kaecilius in Doctor Strange, agrees there are issues with recent MCU releases and characters. Marvel Studios is making changes to address criticism, such as firing its VFX president and giving shows longer development periods.

Doctor Strange star Mads Mikkelsen has perfectly explained a major issue that has affected recent Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Mikkelsen is one of the most talented actors working today, with the star having become a known name among major Hollywood franchises. Mikkelsen’s credits include roles in franchises such as James Bond, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, and the MCU. The actor played Kaecilius, the villain of Benedict Cumberbatch’s first Doctor Strange movie, with fans requesting that Mikkelsen be recast as Doctor Doom for the Multiverse Saga.

Since the start of the Multiverse Saga, the MCU has been struggling. Marvel Studios’ Infinity Saga received mostly praise, with only a few projects failing to meet the universe’s high standards. However, the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, which started with Phase 4, has led to Marvel breaking some of the MCU’s most negative records in rapid succession. That shows that both audiences and critics alike are having problems with how the MCU is handling its recent projects, and Doctor Strange‘s Mikkelsen has hit the nail on the head on a major issue that has been impacting the MCU.

Mads Mikkelsen Agrees With Marvel’s Problem With Building Characters

Speaking to Business Insider, Mikkelsen talked about his time in Doctor Strange and the criticism that the MCU’s recent projects have been receiving. Mikkelsen first remembered his time as Kaecilius in Doctor Strange fondly, despite having had very little to do in the movie, revealing it was his “most fun” experience in a franchise because he “got to do two things [he loves]: doing magic and flying Kung Fu.” While Mikkelsen is fond of his time in the MCU, he is well aware of Marvel’s recent problems.

The Doctor Strange actor was asked about whether he faced issues with understanding Marvel’s scripts, which Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo recently revealed they had. Mikkelsen would go on to defend Doctor Strange while also nailing a huge issue with recent MCU releases, saying, “In terms of what the film was about, I don’t think we were in doubt. It was a very solid script, but I must say, watching some of the latest ones, as an audience, I also go, “Whoa. Who’s that? Where did he come from?” So I understand that they had a few issues on those.“

Marvel Studios’ introduction of several characters over a short time span has led to increasing confusion about certain MCU projects.

How Marvel Studios Is Fixing The MCU’s Recent Issues

Thankfully, Marvel Studios has shown that it is listening to the recent criticism and making changes, including direct answers to the studio’s VFX and TV issues. Marvel Studios fired Victoria Alonso, its President of Physical, Post Production, VFX and Animation, after the MCU received many complaints about uneven CGI. Likewise, Daredevil: Born Again received a major creative overhaul amid a TV shake-up to introduce showrunners to MCU projects and give shows a longer development period before release. With movies also delayed to ensure they are the best they can be when released, the MCU is trying to fix its issues.
