Through their imprint Hyperion Avenue, Disney Publishing Worldwide will be releasing a series of three original novels intended for a mature audience. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Daredevil will each be receiving their own novel.

According to Publisher Weekly, the Disney imprint will be tasking established crime novelists to transform the well-known Marvel characters for the genre. “We are always looking for new ways to tell stories about Marvel’s beloved superheroes, and working with Hyperion Avenue on the Marvel Crime novels will showcase these characters in an exciting new light,” said Sven Larsen, VP of Licensed Publishing at Marvel. “We know that lifelong Marvel fans and crime fiction enthusiasts alike will enjoy this inventive new series.”

The first novel released will be about Jessica Jones. The superpowered private eye is already perfectly suited for the crime genre, so Lisa Jewell, author of 19 crime novels, has an advantage. “Well here’s an announcement and a half! I’ve written a novel for Marvel! It features the brilliant Jessica Jones and will be published this time next year,” tweeted Jewell. Two other novels will be released a year after Jessica Jones’: one about Luke Cage, and one about the Daredevil, Matt Murdock.

The Luke Cage novel will be written by S.A. Cosby, a thriller writer, known for Razorblade Tears and All The Sinners Bleed. Lastly, Alex Segura will be in charge of the Daredevil novel. Segura has previously worked on other Disney IPs such as the YA novels Star Wars Poe Dameron: Free Fall and Ara?a and Spider-Man 2099: Dark Tomorrow, which means that the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is in good hands.

Hyperion Avenue was founded in 2021 with the mandate of taking existing characters and stories from Disney and adapting them into new media. The content is sourced from Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm, ABC, and Twentieth Century Fox, among others. They have already published books about The X-Files, If The Shoe Fits (inspired by Cinderella), The Official Bob’s Burgers Coloring Book, and Look Out for the Little Guy! Written by the fictional Scott Lang (aka Antman).

Separate from the Hyperion Avenue launch, Marvel will also be releasing another series of books for adults through Random House Worlds (an imprint of Penguin Random House). The “What If…?” series will follow characters like Loki, Scarlett Witch, Spider-Man, Moon Knight, and Venom in reimagined adventures.
