Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy admitted that he’s unsure if the upcoming Marvel Studios movie would still be able to make its current 2024 release date.
Speaking with TheWrap, Levy offered a new update regarding the current progress of Deadpool 3, confirming that he has already finished editing half of the movie. However, he doesn’t know if they would be able to retain their May 2024 release, hinting at another possible delay due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. “I wish I knew. I don’t even know if we officially have [a release date]. I know we were gonna be May 3,” Levy said. “Certainly, the actors’ strike and the long pause in production have put that release date in true risk. We’ve shot half the movie. I’ve edited half the movie. We’re dying to get back to work and get this movie out next year.”

During the same interview, Levy was also asked about the popular casting rumors about Taylor Swift potentially playing Dazzler in Deadpool 3. Without confirming or denying, the filmmaker teased that the audience will just have to “wait and see.” This rumor recently gained traction after Swift was spotted hanging out with Levy and Deadpool 3 stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds at an NFL match between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets.
“They sure are loud,” Levy said about fans who are eager to see Swift make her way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I’m going across the board. ‘No comment’ because that’s a double whammy. That’s Taylor-related. And it’s MCU-related. I’m no dummy. You’re going to have to wait and see.”

Swift’s potential appearance in Deadpool 3 shouldn’t come as a surprise since the “Anti-Hero” singer has been long-time friends with Reynolds due to her close friendship with his wife, Gossip Girl vet Blake Lively. Should Swift indeed be portraying Dazzler, this won’t be the first time the mutant will appear in live-action, as a version of the character, played by Halston Sage, had already debuted in 2019’s Dark Phoenix. In the comics, Dazzler is known for her ability to convert sound into light and energy beams. Coincidentally, the superhero mutant also has a career in music.
Apart from Swift, a number of famous names have also been rumored to join Reynolds and Jackman in Deadpool 3 including Daniel Radcliffe, Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, Ian McKellen, Liev Schreiber, and Dafne Keen. In a previous interview, Levy played coy about the Deadpool 3 casting rumors, teasing MCU fans to expect some of it to be true, while some just aren’t.
“I’d rather not weigh in on that, but I’ll say this. The rumors of actors, singers, sports stars who are all apparently in Deadpool 3 are fabulous,” he said. “If all I read was the internet, I would have the greatest cast ever assembled in the history of cinema, so I’ll simply say that some of those rumors are true, and some of them aren’t.”
At the time of writing, Deadpool 3 is still currently slated to arrive in theaters on May 3, 2024.
