With the Marvel Cinematic Universe at arguably the lowest point of its existence, rumors have begun circulating that Marvel Studios has removed the writer for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2025). But is that really the best option for the MCU?

When it comes to superhero movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the cream of the crop. Nothing proves this more than the Avengers films. Each of the four films was unbelievably financially successful and even received critical acclaim. Everyone

This is largely in part due to incredible performances from Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man/Tony Stark), Chris Evans (Captain America), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Mark Ruffalo (The Incredible Hulk), and so many more.

While the heroes make the movie, they would be nothing without their villains. From Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to Thanos (Josh Brolin), each villain seemed bigger and more intimidating than the last. However, the MCU currently has a villain problem.

Not only is there a large amount of scandal and controversy surrounding actor Jonathan Majors, but audiences are finding Kang the Conqueror not nearly as threatening as Loki, Ultron, or Thanos, especially since he was easily defeated by ants in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023). This has led to speculation that Marvel Studios may be drastically changing its upcoming film slate.

In a recent episode of the House of R podcast, hosts Mallory Rubin and Joanna Robinson were discussing the finale of Loki (2022-present) season 2. Naturally, the topic of Jonathan Majors came up, and Robinson had some interesting information to share.

“I heard from someone recently…the screenwriter Jeff Loveness, who wrote Quantumania, was supposed to write The Kang Dynasty…anyway, it’s confirmed. I had it confirmed to me he’s no longer working for Marvel,” Robinson reveals. “I asked the person why, and they said the reason why is he was all wrapped up in this Kang storyline, and they are likely going to be moving away from that.”

Robinson immediately clarified, “So no official that ‘Avengers colon Kang Dynasty‘ will now be called ‘Doom’s Distopia‘ or whatever… but I think this gives them the perfect opportunity to just be done.” While there is no proof that Jonathan Majors is out or that Doctor Doom is in, Robinson is incredibly knowledgeable about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having written MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios (2023).

Still, like with all rumors and scoops like this, this is not an official confirmation. In fact, this rumor has circulated multiple times before. However, this does prompt an interesting question…

There is clearly a large amount of controversy surrounding Kang actor Jonathan Majors and the assault allegations against him. Many fans are calling for him to be removed from Marvel, while others are demanding he stay. Substituting Doctor Doom for Kang could be an easy solution.

It would be awesome to have Doctor Doom make his debut in the MCU since he is such an iconic villain, but it could be short-sighted to cut Kang the Conqueror completely. If things go south with the Jonathan Majors trial, it seems that the best option would be to simply recast their big baddie. After all, there are plenty of talented actors who could play him.
