Disney and Marvel Studios are delaying the release dates for both Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
The dates have been pushed back, with Avengers: Doomsday moved from May 1 to December 18, 2026.
Avengers: Secret Wars is moving from May 7 to December 17, 2027.
The delay comes with filming having started in the UK about a month ago.
Marvel also has The Fantastic Four: First Steps coming out on July 25.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day gets released on July 31, 2026.
Why have The Avengers movies been delayed?
The move obviously gives the Russo brothers more time to develop both films. Rumors actually offer they’ve been filming without a finished script, so the delay makes sense.
The “Marvel way” of filming the MCU movies is something well known, which means they shoot their movies and figure things out on the fly.
Often, they wait until post-production to add in various things, have second unit directors film the action scenes, and finish the movie with reshoots.

Plot
A recent plot synopsis at a Japanese comic convention teased Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars reboots the MCU, which fits with what the Russos have said in interviews:
The highly anticipated new Avengers movie, “Avengers: Doomsday,” will be released in one year. Seven years after the excitement of “Endgame,” the ever-evolving Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to reach a new climax. Robert Downey Jr. makes a sensational return to the MCU as the villain Doctor Doom! The Russo brothers, who led “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Endgame” to success will once again serve as directors. Let’s move forward together toward the new era of the MCU.
Joe Russo added as part of the display at the convention, “It’s going to be the most epic two-part story in the last decade with many characters and intertwining stories.”
