Summary

Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Sam and Sarah Wilson, and Aamir and Kamala Khan share strong sibling bonds that have a significant impact on their character development. Siblings like Mantis and Star-Lord, Shang Chi and Xialing, and Gamora and Nebula find a sense of family and belonging with each other, even without official blood relations.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has showcased plenty of family dynamics over the years, with their sibling duos providing some of the most heartwarming moments in the franchise. From blood relations to found family, it doesn’t matter how exactly these sibling pairs are connected. Being a superhero doesn’t stop these characters from having real sibling moments in the MCU, bickering over the smallest things yet wholeheartedly having each other’s back.

Many sibling pairs have been featured throughout the MCU’s timeline. Whether they’re both incredibly superpowered individuals like Thor and Loki or regular civilians like Sam and Sarah Wilson, each of the MCU’s sibling dynamics has been unique. Some pairs may have gone their separate ways, but their relationship with their sibling will always be at the core of their character.

10 Billy And Tommy Maximoff Are United Across The Multiverse

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (2022)

Billy and Tommy Maximoff were inseparable during WandaVision, mirroring their mother’s own relationship with her twin Pietro. Though the series rapidly ages them up, the pair’s personalities are clearly on display. The two don’t just have a strong bond with each other by the show’s finale, but also with both of their parents, Wanda and Vision. This is what makes their disappearance with the collapse of the Westview Anomaly so much more heartbreaking, as Wanda was truly losing everyone she loved.

Though the twins didn’t appear for long, they have been an essential part of Wanda’s character arc. She would’ve never gone through the events of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness if it weren’t to get her children back. The corrupted Scarlet Witch finally does find Billy and Tommy in a universe where Wanda is still their mother. Not only are Billy and Tommy bonded with their mother in every universe, but they are united with each other across the multiverse as well.

9 Sam Always Has Sarah’s Back

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier (2021)

Unlike the other sibling duos in the MCU, Sam and Sarah Wilson aren’t superpowered individuals. Sam may play an important role as the MCU’s current Captain America, but at the heart of it all, they are just two kids from Louisiana. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series did a great job of showing just how regular of a life Sam lived as a child and the civilian life Sarah currently lives. Despite Sam being away later in life to fulfill his duties to the Air Force and then the Avengers, he and Sarah are still shown to have a close bond.

The strongest indicator of Sam and Sarah’s bond is how he always has her back throughout The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He first tries to help her out financially when she thinks about selling her house, and he then rallies the community to help her fix the family boat. When Sarah is threatened by the Flag Smashers, Sam is there to protect her. Sarah also proves that she has Sam’s back, letting him know that she’s proud of him for all that he’s accomplished and reassuring him that he’s not running away from his family.

8 Aamir Understands Kamala’s Point Of View

Ms. Marvel (2022)

Although Kamala Khan has already experienced galactic battles and multiversal rips in space, she is still so young. The Khan family may be close, but it’s natural that Kamala will butt heads with her parents just like any other teenager. Especially after her parents become aware of her Ms. Marvel persona, they become extra protective of their daughter. In all of these instances, her brother Aamir has been there to bring balance to the family.

Throughout Ms. Marvel, Aamir is shown to be witty. He always has a quip prepared and is ready to lighten the mood when things get too tense. However, he truly does take his role of a big brother seriously, as he always reassures Kamala that her point of view is heard. Whenever Kamala has a fight with their parents, Aamir is there to hear his sister out and offer some level-headed advice.

7 Star-Lord And Mantis Were Found Family First

The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special followed the team on a festive journey, but the moment meant much more to Mantis and Star-Lord. The special officially confirmed the two as siblings, both fathered by Ego. Though Mantis is nervous to tell Peter, it makes it all the more heartwarming when Peter reassures her that there’s nothing that he’d love more than to be her brother. However, the two did not need an official blood relation to already be considered family.

One of the charms of the Guardians is how much of a found family they are. Starting the trilogy individually as outcasts, their growing reliance on each other is what makes their strong teamwork that much more evident. Mantis may have only joined the team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but she quickly grows a bond with each member. Star-Lord already considered her a sister of sorts in a way, and the GOTG Holiday Special reveal was just a bonus.

6 Shang Chi And Xialing Reconciled After Years

Shang Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings (2021)

Though the MCU sibling duos have each other’s backs, it hasn’t always been like that. Xialing is first introduced in Shang Chi as having a strained relationship with her brother, showing off her strength in the fight against him. It makes sense that she’d harbor some resentment towards Shang Chi as from Xialing’s perspective, he abandoned her at a young age. Especially under the watchful eye of their father, Wenwu, it made growing up for Xialing without her brother extremely hard.

However, Shang Chi shows the regrowth of their sibling bond as Shang Chi makes up for his actions and Xialing understands the desperation of his escape. Their newfound relationship is solidified when Xialing has the choice to sacrifice herself, yet Shang Chi reassures her that he won’t leave her again. Their relationship growing up might not have been the loving family environment that some other MCU sibling duos had, but it makes their reunion all the more touching.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron (2015)

Although Wanda is suspected to have been born with the ability to harness Chaos Magic, she and her fraternal twin Pietro lived a normal childhood in Sokovia until the bombings on Novi Grad. The incident killed the Maximoff twins’ parents and left them as orphans. From that moment on, the two siblings only had each other and decided to dedicate their lives to avenging their country and parents.

MCU: 10 Memes That Perfectly Sum Up Wanda & Pietro’s Relationship

Wanda and Pietro may have had limited screentime in the MCU, but fans loved their sibling dynamic, and have created endless memes about them.

The extremely close bond that the two had is what makes Pietro’s death in Avengers: Age of Ultron all the harder to accept. Wanda lost the last piece of family she had, and her brother’s absence goes on to play a key part in her eventual character development. She misses her brother so much that she subconsciously casts a role for him in the Westview Anomaly, showing the happy life she could’ve had with him as an uncle to her children.

4 Gamora And Nebula Bonded Over Thanos’ Cruelty

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

Sometimes siblings truly don’t get along, and Gamora and Nebula are the prime example of this. From the moment the pair is introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, they are clearly in competition with each other to try and impress their adoptive father, Thanos. However, Gamora is able to realize how Thanos is using her and joins the Guardians, leaving Nebula to deal with their father herself.

GOTG Vol. 2 humanizes Nebula and starts her arc of realization. Confessing to Gamora that all she truly wanted was a sister, the pair accept that Thanos pitted them against each other and start to bond over their trauma. Their relationship was just starting to blossom when Gamora was sacrificed by Thanos, making Nebula’s fight with the Avengers in Infinity War and Endgame that much more personal.

3 Natasha Makes It Up To Yelena

Black Widow (2021)

Natasha Romanoff’s backstory was left pretty vague during the early phases of the MCU, which was what made her eventual solo film that much more highly anticipated. It was already implied that her time in the Red Room was especially traumatic, and Black Widow unveiled the details of how she got there. Though Natasha and Yelena were not blood-related sisters, they very much acted like it during their time undercover in Ohio. For such a young Yelena, the family they had built while undercover was everything to her, which is why she feels as if Natasha abandoned her.

In Black Widow, there is a clear disconnect with how Yelena sees their bond versus the rest of the family, as she’s especially hurt by them saying that they weren’t a real family. However, their bond is shown to be very much real with how they’re all willing to protect each other. Natasha makes it clear to Yelena that she sees her as a real sister and repairs their bond. The sisterhood that they now have makes Black Widow that much harder of a watch, as most audiences are already aware of Natasha’s impending MCU fate.

The Thor Franchise

Thor and Loki have always brought a new meaning to sibling rivalry in the MCU. From the moment they are introduced in Thor, the two are already shown to have a complicated relationship. Since Loki was adopted, there was resentment from the God of Mischief that their father preferred Thor to him and the feelings were the catalyst for many of Loki’s shenanigans. The following Thor films put the two Gods on a tumultuous journey, highlighting the highs and lows of their sibling bond.

Thor and Loki’s MCU family tree keeps growing as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s take on Norse mythology is explored in new movies and shows.

Though Thor and Loki spent plenty of time at each other’s throats, they truly did care for one another. When one was in danger, the other would usually come to their aid whether begrudgingly or not. With Thor having to witness multiple of Loki’s deaths, he could likely sense that his demise at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War was probably not a fake out this time. The two had a complicated relationship, but Thor will definitely miss the presence of his brother in his life.

1 T’Challa Was Shuri’s Role Model

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

The respect that Shuri has for T’Challa is unparalleled in the MCU. Not only was he her older brother, but he was also the ruler and protector of Wakanda as the Black Panther. The sibling dynamic that they were portrayed to have was loving yet playful, with Shuri always cracking jokes at her brother’s expense. However, when it came to it, they would always protect each other.

Their time together was cut short with the passing of actor Chadwick Boseman, but Shuri has clearly ensured that her brother’s legacy lives on. She has picked up the Black Panther mantle in his honor, protecting her nation like T’Challa previously did. Though their sibling interactions won’t be seen in the future MCU, their bond will surely be felt wherever Shuri goes.
