The Deadpool sequel, set to hit theaters on July 26, looks to be a multiversal extravaganza, following Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine as they embark on an epic quest to save Wade’s universe from the villainous Cassandra Nova.

Deadpool & Wolverine will include multiple appearances from fan-favorite characters from Fox’s X-Men universe, including several villains who form Cassandra Nova’s army. However, rumors suggest that fans could see cameos from multiple X-Men as well, who could help Wade and Logan defeat the evil that threatens the multiverse.

10 Iceman Is The X-Men Franchise’s Most Underrated Hero

Bobby Drake is a powerful mutant who is a young student at the Xavier Academy during the original X-Men trilogy. Throughout the films, Bobby diligently hones his ice powers to become the superhero Iceman. Eventually, he even unlocks a full ice form that increases his power and hints at his eventually becoming an Omega-level mutant, as is the case in the comics.

Iceman never takes center stage in the X-Men movies, despite the character’s popularity. Deadpool & Wolverine could change this by bringing Bobby Drake back one last time. Moreover, Iceman’s nemesis, Pyro, is already confirmed to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, potentially setting up a rematch between the fire and ice-powered mutants.

9 Rogue Deserves Her Long-Awaited Return

Rogue is a central character in most iterations of the X-Men, and the film adaptations are no exception. In the Fox films, Rogue is depicted as a young mutant just discovering her powers and struggling with the curse that they bring, leaving her unable to make physical contact with another human being. Eventually, she learns that she can also drain the powers of other mutants, taking them for herself.

Many fans were displeased with Rogue’s ending in X-Men: The Last Stand, which saw her take the mutant cure and absolve herself of any powers. While the Rogue Cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past hints at a retcon to the character’s ending, this version of the film is not necessarily official canon. With Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine returning in Deadpool & Wolverine, now is the perfect chance to bring back Dafne Keen’s X-23, who was a fan-favorite character at her debut. The film shouldn’t just introduce a new variant of X-23, however, but should continue the character’s story from Logan. This could also lead to Keen’s X-23 joining the MCU as a regular character, carrying on Wolverine’s legacy for many years to come.

7 Jean Grey Is The Most Powerful Member Of The X-Men

Jean Grey was an original member of the X-Men introduced in the 2000 film that launched the franchise. Her vast array of abilities included telepathy and telekinesis, but were also partially powered by the latent Phoenix Force living inside her. When the Phoenix Force took over and caused immense havoc, Wolverine was forced to kill Jean, the woman whom he loved.

The Phoenix is one of the most recognizable members of the X-Men, even if her most popular story was botched twice by Fox’s franchise. Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry plays Ororo Munroe, a.k.a. Storm, in the original X-Men movies. Storm is a mutant capable of controlling the weather, most often bending lightning and wind to her command. She also appears in the prequels, where she is shown as one of Apocalypse’s four horsemen before joining the X-Men.

Although Storm is one of the most popular mutants in Marvel Comics, the Fox films never really knew what to do with the character. She almost always took a backseat to the other mutants and, when she was utilized, Storm’s cringy dialogue often overshadowed her epic powers. Deadpool & Wolverine can finally do justice to this iconic character, even if she does only make a cameo therein.

5 Deadpool & Wolverine Could Do Justice To Nightcrawler

Kurt Wagner, a.k.a. Nightcrawler, is a teleporting mutant who makes his first memorable appearance when he storms the White House and attacks the President in the opening scene of X2: X-Men United. Despite his epic introduction, Nightcrawler disappears from the franchise until his sudden reappearance in the final two prequel movies, where he is similarly underutilized.

The X-Men movies got off to a great start with Nightcrawler before entirely forgetting that his character existed. Deadpool & Wolverine, with all its irreverent and self-referential humor, could make fun of this blatant oversight while also giving Nightcrawler an epic action scene or two to amend his exclusion from The Last Stand and Days of Future Past.

Evan Peters made his debut as the speedster mutant Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past, instantly winning over audiences in the process. Although fans adore the character, Quicksilver’s inclusion in the X-Men team has been a major gripe for years. If any character absolutely has to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, it is Beast, if only to set up the coming crossover between Fox’s X-Men movies and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

2 Cyclops Deserves To Return To The Spotlight

James Marsden first brought the character of Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops, to life in 2000’s X-Men. Ever since then, the character was quickly sidelined and mistreated until the ultimate insult came when he was killed off-screen at the beginning of The Last Stand. Although Fox tried to fix its mistake by including Cyclops in its rebooted franchise, the mighty mutant never got what he deserved in any X-Men film.

Fans consistently name Cyclops the most mistreated mutant when it comes to live-action adaptations, especially when shows like X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ’97 capture the X-Men team leader so well. James Marsden’s version of the character could still be great but needs to return in Deadpool & Wolverine to prove it.

1 Professor X Is Connected To Deadpool & Wolverine’s Villain

Sir Patrick Stewart owned the role of Professor Charles Xavier for over twenty years, with James McAvoy also contributing a terrific younger version of the character. The Omega-level mutant is the founder of the X-Men and one of the most recognizable characters from Fox’s franchise, even going so far as to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, though this was confirmed to be an alternate version of the character.

Charles Xavier has a special connection to Cassandra Nova, the villain of Deadpool & Wolverine. Nova is Xavier’s twin sister, who has a vendetta against him and his X-Men. To fully capture Nova’s storyline from the comics, Deadpool & Wolverine must bring back Patrick Stewart’s version of the character to face off against his villainous twin sister.
