Superhero and Kaiju fiction share many common themes. One of the more popular ones is two characters who fight, only to join forces against a new, seemingly more powerful enemy. This idea comes into play in Godzilla vs. X-Men, when the efforts of two villains lead to an upgraded enemy to both the King of All Monsters and Marvel’s Mutants.
Written by Fabian Nicieza, with art by Emilio Laiso, the comic finds Professor X and the X-Men recruited to fight Godzilla. This comes after a meeting with agents of the American government and Japanese electronics firm Tsuguani Robotics. For some reason, the King of All Monsters seems to be targeting facilities owned by Tsuguani Robotics. Despite the CEO’s insistence on using brute force, Professor X believes that Godzilla might be reasoned with, given his history of heroism.

However, while hoping for a peaceful solution, Professor X also sees the wisdom of preparing for a fight. To that end, the Mutant heroes procure a Super-Adaptoid robot capable of replicating any superpower. By combining the robot with some borrowed Pym Particles, they effectively create a Mecha with the powers of all the X-Men. This allows them to engage Godzilla, while Professor X tries to read the mind of the King of All Monsters.
The X-Men quickly learn that Godzilla had good reason to attack Tsuguani Robotics. The CEO has a deep hatred of all Kaiju, born of his father’s death during a battle between Godzilla and Anguirus. This led him to partner with Bolivar Trask, the scientist who created the Mutant-hunting Sentinels. Together, they created a new Tri-Sentinel, based on three of Godzilla’s greatest enemies.

Unsurprisingly, the new Tri-Sentinel proved as unreliable as the earlier models. The mecha-kaiju quickly threatens to do more damage than Godzilla ever had. Thankfully, it proves no match for the combined efforts of the X-Men and the King of all Monsters.
