Just when the world of Venom seemed to be settled, Marvel has delivered a bombshell announcement that Knull, The King in Black and Symbiote God is returning from the dead, making his official comeback for the landmark Venom #250 just in time for Halloween 2025.

With Eddie Brock having killed and usurped Knull already, the hero has become the new host of Carnage. But with fans reeling from the shocking twist that Mary Jane Watson is the new Venom, Marvel is already looking ahead to what will surely be the heroine’s greatest challenge yet. Find the official synopsis and cover art detailing Knull’s return in Venom #250 below:

THE RETURN OF KNULL! Mary Jane Watson is finally in the swing of things as the new Venom host, using their powers in all-new ways to be the hero the symbiote never knew it could be! But as she cleans up the streets of New York, she remains blissfully unaware of the strands of darkness leading off into the darkness of the void. Knull, the creator of all symbiotes, was killed by Eddie Brock. Nothing could bring him back… but Knull rules over nothing. Knull has returned, and word is racing across the stars to the one who took him down before to prepare to do it again. Will Venom be ready?

Knull Returns To Face Mary Jane in Venom #250 This October

Along with these first details comes confirmation that current All-New Venom writer Al Ewing will be joined by star artist Terry Dodson for the special issue, promised by Marvel to “kick off a major symbiote saga” featuring the restored Knull. Little does the former King in Black know that the Venom he seeks is no longer bonded to Eddie Brock, but Mary Jane Watson. Not that it will save her, when Knull arrives in full force.

It’s Official! A New Venom Just Made Their Debut, And It’s the Last Person You’d Ever Expect

Spider-Man lore has just taken a wild twist in the Ultimate Universe, as the son of Peter Parker officially claims the title of Venom.

All things considered, it should offer readers some hope to hear that no matter what brutality Knull brings, the story will go on, with a series retitle back to Venom with Issue #251. Of course, whether or not fans should assume that name change means a host change as well, is a question that will have to remain for now.

The King in Black’s Return is Good News For Marvel Event Fans

The symbiote sphere is by no means lacking intrigue in Knull’s absence, with the entire Spider-Verse and Venomverse at war in their own Marvel series. It was in that very series that readers got their first hint of Knull’s return, but now the rumors can cease. As if anyone needed an explanation for Marvel resurrecting this monumental cosmic villain, Venom writer Al Ewing gives his thoughts on the return of Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley’s big bad:

“When Donny and Ryan brought Knull into being, they created the first new villain in a while with what I’d call ‘big villain juice.’ He’s visually arresting, you know what he wants in one sentence, you can’t talk him out of it, he’s powerful enough to hold down a crossover… and he was given the wonderful luxury of going away for a while. When a big bad is allowed to lay fallow and drift into memory, what’s remembered is all the things readers liked about them – and that’s when it’s time for a comeback. The final ingredient in a good villain – they may be down, but they’re never out.”

Venom #250 will be available this October from Marvel Comics.
