Gambit Gets His Biggest Power Upgrade of All Time as Galactus’ New Herald
X-Men’s Gambit is getting a shocking power upgrade as Galactus selects him as his new herald, including a cosmic redesign to challenge Silver Surfer.
Even for the Spider-Verse, This Is a Huge Upgrade
The Spider-Verse is full of incredibly powerful heroes, with versions of Spider-Man who are also their world’s Captain Britain or Captain Universe. However, becoming a Herald of Galactus takes this Spider-Gwen beyond even that. The Power Cosmic allows heralds to go head-to-head with powerhouses like Hulk and Thor, giving them immense power to both create and destroy. Some powers heralds have demonstrated are advancement of evolution, time travel, and interdimensional travel, plus the usual cosmic flight and god-tier energy blasts.
If Cosmic Spider-Gwen resonates with fans, there’s a major chance this storyline carries over to main continuity – especially given how often Marvel’s Spider-Heroes unite across realities. Given the major threats to Spider-Heroes across Marvel’s many realities, a Power Cosmic-enhanced Spider-Gwen could be essential in protecting and safeguarding countless other heroes, especially because even a short time working for Galactus is likely to leave her with a major moral debt to repay.
The Power Cosmic is one of the fundamental forces of reality, enhancing those who possess it to the same level as living gods. It will be fascinating to see how Gwen Stacy handles that power, as well as the unique ways she channels it through her existing abilities. Of course, even a godlike Spider-Gwenwill struggle to make a dent against Galactus, raising the possibility that the Marvel multiverse will lose this version of Spider-Gwen as quickly as it got her.
What If…? Galactus Transformed Spider-Gwen #1 is coming January 29 from Marvel Comics.
