Spider-Man fans have a lot to look forward to in September and beyond, including the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation 5 in October, and the availability of the critically acclaimed film Across the Spider-Verse on home media. PlayStation may plan a dedicated showcase, similar to their previous marketing patterns, for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to build hype for the game’s release. In addition to the video game and film releases, there are also new issues of Spider-Man comics hitting shelves, providing ample content for avid readers.

When it comes to Marvel’s mighty multitude of colorful characters, Spider-Man is possibly the most popular of the bunch with a catalog of multimedia projects including decades of comic books, blockbuster feature films, and now high-quality video games from Insomniac. For fans of the webhead, there has been no shortage of quality content to swing into since the character first graced the pages of Marvel Comics way back in the 1960s.

Looking ahead into September, Spider-Man fans may be treated to more content than ever with a huge month in store. For gamers, the most obvious project to look forward to is the upcoming PS5 exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, due for release on October 20. With the release date coming up fast, it is possible that PlayStation and Insomniac could be planning a dedicated showcase to help promote the game before launch. Beyond that, there are even more things to look forward to in the month of September for Spidey enthusiasts.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Marketing Push

October is looking to be a stacked month for video game releases, most notable among them being the highly anticipated follow-up to Marvel’s Spider-Man. Although Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales proved to be a solid side story to hold fans over, the true sequel is just around the corner. Trailers for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have looked extremely promising, and it seems like PlayStation has another home run on its hands. For this reason, before the release rolls around, it would be wise for PlayStation to begin its final marketing push roughly a month before the game is available.

It wouldn’t be out of left field to see a PlayStation State of Play solely dedicated to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at some point next month. A deep dive into its many gameplay enhancements, extra features, and teasing more of the story would be a great way to add an extra layer of hype to the game.

This could happen around the anniversary of Marvel’s Spider-Man as a celebration of the franchise’s inception, and would also follow a similar pattern to previous major PlayStation releases, with games like The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima also receiving State of Play presentations roughly a month before launch to give fans one final preview before the game becomes available. It’s been an established marketing pattern for PlayStation up to this point, so it wouldn’t be strange to expect the same for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 may be the most significant piece of new content for Spidey fans in the next couple of months. However, there are still other goodies in store. In terms of film, Across the Spider-Verse was both a critical and commercial success. Thanks to its emotional story and stunning animation, it has gone on to be a fan favorite and arguably the best movie ever made revolving around the web-slinger. There’s good news for fans who can’t get enough of the latest adventure starring Miles Morales, as it will become available on home media on September 5.

Of course, originating in comics, Spider-Man still has a healthy amount of new issues hitting comic stands and bookstores each month. For avid readers of any current continuity, there are numerous stories to enjoy in September. The ongoing Zeb Wells run of The Amazing Spider-Man continues as it hits issue #33, while spin-off characters like Venom and Silk also have new stories hitting stores around the same time. Between video games, home media, and comic books to read, there’s no shortage of content for Spider-Man fans in September.
