Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom design is imagined by exciting Avengers: Doomsday art. With Kang the Conqueror out of the way, after Marvel fired Jonathan Majors, all eyes are on how Avengers: Doomsday‘s story sets up Downey’s Doctor Doom to be the main villain of the Multiverse Saga. So far, Marvel has chosen to keep the film’s story beats and character designs a secret, with almost nothing revealed. There has been a lot of speculation regarding how the MCU’s Doctor Doom will look, and if it is anything like the art, Marvel fans should be happy.
On Instagram, @welove__marvel depicted what Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom could look like in Avengers: Doomsday.
The fan art gives Victor von Doom his signature scars and features Downey donning a modernized version of Doctor Doom’s hood and armor. In the background are what appear to be two Doombots, which will likely be part of Avengers: Doomsday‘s plot if Marvel is fully going the comics-accurate route with the main player of Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast. At the moment, there is no word on whether Downey’s Doctor Doom will have the villain’s Marvel Comics scars.

A Look At The MCU Star On The Avengers Movie Set Teased Doom’s Design
While Marvel Studios has yet to reveal what Doctor Doom will look like in the next Avengers movie, there has been a major tease regarding the character’s design. The tease comes from the first look at Robert Downey Jr. on the Avengers: Doomsday set. The set photo might not show the actor in Doctor Doom’s costume, but interestingly, it reveals that Downey will have a lot of dots used to project CGI onto an actor all over his face. That could mean a few things for the MCU’s Doctor Doom.

Avengers: Doomsday’s cast features powerful Marvel heroes and villains, but some of them would stand a better chance against Downey’s Doctor Doom.
Given how Doom’s scarred face is such a big part of him, being the reason for his mask, the CGI dots could tease that Marvel will use VFX to get Doctor Doom’s comics-accurate look right. However, there is also the possibility that Marvel is simply tracking Downey’s face to come up with Doctor Doom’s mask or hood with CGI. It would not be the first time that an MCU character has had a CGI mask. That said, it’s hard to tell from the set photo, but based on how Downey is looking into Doctor Doom comics, he should look accurate.
Our Take On Whether Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Will Have Comics-Accurate Scars In Avengers: Doomsday
Marvel Knows How Beloved Comic Book Designs Are
Based on how Robert Downey Jr. is the MCU’s most popular face for Iron Man, I feel like Doctor Doom needs to have a scarred face. If not for comics accuracy, then at least to make the character visually distinct from Tony Stark when he does not have his mask on. At the moment, I’m mixed on whether that will happen.

While the CGI dots on the Avengers: Doomsday set photo could point at the scars, their placement makes me feel it’s for the mask. That said, Wolverine’s comics-accurate suit was a hit, so Doctor Doom has a good chance.
