The development of one iconic Marvel storyline in the MCU makes the newly-teased possibility for Hawkeye season 2 even more exciting. Hawkeye first premiered on Disney+ in November 2021, and the six-part series pitted Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop against the Tracksuit Mafia, Maya Lopez’s Echo and the Kingpin of crime in New York himself, Wilson Fisk. Hawkeye released during a period of the MCU where second seasons of Disney+ shows weren’t the norm, leaving the future of Barton and Bishop uncertain, but Marvel’s plans may now have changed.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly in February, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, teased the potential for Hawkeye season 2. Winderbaum noted that Marvel is “looking for opportunities” to revisit Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, and is looking to develop “multiple seasons” of future MCU shows on Disney+. This is all very exciting, and even more so because of Marvel Studios’ recent introduction of one of the comics’ most iconic and game-changing street-level storylines that could easily affect the two Hawkeyes.

Marvel Studios Has Been Developing An Adaptation Of The Devil’s Reign Storyline

Devil’s Reign Impacted Marvel Comics In 2021

Ever since Vincent D’Onofrio’s return as Wilson Fisk in 2021’s Hawkeye, Marvel Studios has been setting him up to become the new Mayor of New York, which seems to be coming to fruition in 2025’s Daredevil: Born Again. After he becomes Mayor in Marvel Comics, Fisk, during 2021’s Devil’s Reign storyline, outlaws vigilantism in New York, which has a huge impact on many street-level and major heroes. After the events of Hawkeye and Echo, this appears to also be Wilson Fisk’s goal in the MCU, posing a dark future for Daredevil, Hawkeye and more.

In the Marvel Comics storyline, Mayor Fisk established Thunderbolts units to enforce his new laws after outlawing vigilantism in New York City. With Echo teasing his evolution into Mayor in the MCU, Thunderbolts* introducing this antihero team in 2025, and Daredevil: Born Again seemingly forging Fisk into Mayor, many street-level heroes could find themselves affected by Kingpin’s actions. This could include Daredevil and the Defenders, Spider-Man, Captain America and, perhaps most pertinently, Clint Barton and his new protégé, which leads perfectly into Hawkeye season 2.

Hawkeye Season 2 Fits Into Marvel’s Devil’s Reign Story Perfectly

Hawkeye Season 2 Can Develop The MCU’s Street-Level Stories

While Clint Barton’s family farmhouse is located in Iowa, he has regularly been seen operating as Hawkeye on the streets of New York City. Kate Bishop also has a home in New York, so it would make sense for both these heroes to be affected by Wilson Fisk’s rise to power as Mayor of New York. Devil’s Reign is such a huge Marvel Comics event that many upcoming MCU projects could easily explore its impact, far beyond Daredevil: Born Again, which makes Hawkeye season 2 even more exciting.

The future of several popular MCU and Marvel Television shows is still uncertain, but many of them deserve to be continued in new seasons.

While the follow-up season hasn’t yet been confirmed, it’s very possible that Hawkeye season 2 could catch up with Clint Barton and Kate Bishop in the midst of Kingpin’s clamp-down on New York’s heroes. Barton’s house arrest after Captain America: Civil War wasn’t really explored, so him as a fugitive could be examined in more detail in a future season of Hawkeye. Since Kingpin returned to the MCU in the Phase 4 series, its potential season 2 would be a great place to continue his story, and this would introduce some exhilarating conflict for Barton and Bishop.
