Introduced in the pages of 1972’s Marvel Spotlight #5 by writer Gary Friedrich and artist Mike Ploog, Johnathan Blaze was the first Ghost Rider to grace the pages of Marvel Comics. After effectively selling his soul in an attempt to save a loved one, Johnny was bonded to the demon Zarathos and reborn as a Spirit of Vengeance. Since his debut, Johnny has taken on all manner of infernal, superpowered, and interstellar menaces, not to mention laid the foundation for numerous Spirits of Vengeance and other similar figures to follow the trail he paved.
Galactus, also known as the Devourer of Worlds, has been a part of the Marvel Universe since 1965’s Fantastic Four #48 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced the concept of such a staggering cosmic threat. While Galactus’ comic book career has grown far beyond his beginnings as a relatively simplistic if awe-striking villain, the character has yet to be successfully translated for the silver screen. This is precisely one of the primary reasons fans are so eager to catch Fantastic Four: First Steps when it arrives in theaters, as it will be bringing the Devourer of Worlds to the big screen in his most recognizable form for the very first time.

Ghost Rider vs. Galactus is the latest in J. Michael Straczynski’s recently released series of one-shot team-up books featuring some of the unlikeliest pairings in the history of Marvel Comics. The first of these was Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon, which arrived on comic book store shelves in January. Ahead of the issue’s release, Straczynski said of the project, “I like to go where the fun is, and the idea of putting together Marvel characters who had either never been paired before, or only minimally, seemed like it would be a ton of fun, and it was even more of a blast than I anticipated.”
