When it comes to villains, few are as powerful as the infamous Thanos, but Marvel Comics has just revealed that one shocking villain gives the Mad Titan a run for his money. Thanos may have taken control of the Infinity Stones, but another classic foe needs reality to be broken in order to stop them.

Thanos is a villain whose reputation precedes him. Among the other numerous feats to his name, Thanos infamously took out all life when he assembled the Infinity Gauntlet and snapped half of life out of existence. Few would even attempt to rival Thanos’ power, but Marvel Comics is certainly trying with a surprising foe. A new series has just brought back Fin Fang Foom to battle a handful of Marvel icons and his power is far greater than fans expected.

As amazing as it is to say, Thanos has a true rival in the extraterrestrial dragon monster.

Fin Fang Foom Requires Reality-Breaking Solutions to Stop Him

Only Going Outside the Boundaries of Comics Could Defeat the Monster

In Gwenpool #1 by Cavan Scott, Stefano Nesi, Matt Milla, and Ariana Maher, the Marvel Universe is under attack again. Among the wreckage of a city is Spider-Man, who is bloodied, beaten, and scorched by flames. Thankfully, he’s not alone, as he still has Hawkeye Kate Bishop and Jeff the Land Shark by his side. Unfortunately, they’re the heroes standing after this attack as Spider-Man reveals the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four’s combined forces have all failed to stop Fin Fang Foom’s rampage.

the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four’s combined forces have all failed to stop Fin Fang Foom’s rampage.

Fortunately, there’s one additional hero left, Gwenpool, who reveals herself to the trio (much to Spider-Man’s displeasure). Peter immediately discounts Gwenpool, believing there’s nothing she can do to stop Fin Fang Foom, not that that stops her from running headfirst into battle, only to be stomped by the monster’s gigantic foot. Thankfully, she’s not crushed, but she is missing once Fin Fang Foom removes his foot. The monster begins to monologue, declaring himself as the strongest being in the cosmos and prepares himself to conquer the world.

However, Gwenpool returns, now eclipsing the monster in size. Apparently, when Fin Fang Foom crushed her, she slipped into the white space between panels, then waited for the perspective to shift so that she could re-enter the comic at a larger scale. This infuriates Fin Fang Foom, who charges at her. But with Gwenpool’s new size, she easily dispatches the monster by punting him into the skies. Gwenpool returns to her proper size and celebrates beating the one villain the whole Marvel Universe couldn’t.

Fin Fan Foom Deserves Thanos-Level Respect

Despite the Loss, He Just Scored Some Major Villain Points

Sure, this example ends with Fin Fang Foom being taken out with a humiliating kick. But as Spider-Man points out, right before the monster faced off with Gwenpool, Fin Fang Foom took out several iconic Marvel teams, including the Fantastic Four. It’s not easy to take out one of those teams, much less three of them once they pool their resources. But Fin Fang Foom did and, frankly, he deserves the kind of respect Thanos gets if the dragon-like kaiju is that overwhelmingly strong.

Granted, Thanos has the benefit of being a major player in the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But just because Fin Fang Foom doesn’t have as much notoriety, that doesn’t mean he’s not on the same level as Thanos. Clearly, Fin Fang Foom is a powerhouse who is capable of leveling Marvel’s greatest heroes (except for those that can manipulate the boundaries of the comic book medium. Thanos might be strong, but he’s got an underrated rival in Fin Fang Foom.
