Warning: Contains preview images for Sensational She-Hulk #10!There’s no shortage of powerful heroes in Marvel Comics, but it’s not often that a hero gets an upgrade in their own classification like Captain Marvel just did. Carol Danvers has more than proved herself capable of defending Earth and leading the Avengers, but she’s even gone to such heights that other heroes have taken note – specifically She-Hulk, who has a new definition for how powerful Captain Marvel really is.

As She-Hulk prepares to deal with an Avengers-level threat in Sensational She-Hulk #10by Rainbow Rowell and Andrés Genolet, her narration gives a brief description of each member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The most surprising thing out of the list, however, comes from the flippant description Jen gives of her close friend Captain Marvel, whom She-Hulk says is “practically a Celestial.”

While Captain Marvel has always been a powerhouse in the Marvel Universe, this new definition of Celestial brings her practically on par with the gods of comic history.

Captain Marvel Is a Celestial Among Avengers

Captain Marvel #11 Cover by Kelly Thompson and Carmen Carnero

Captain Marvel is certainly stronger than her fellow Avengers, and after their latest failure in Blood Hunt (2024), Captain Marvel sees the Avengers as a failure. This could only be said by someone who has outpaced them in strength and skill. Because if you’ve been typified as a Celestial, then it’s much easier to judge the Avengers. Since it takes nearly all the Avengers on the roster to deal with a Celestial, the likeness to Captain Marvel only becomes clearer.

Captain Marvel is practically becoming a space goddess, and Marvel fans are witnessing the evolution firsthand in real time.

Considering she even once defeated the entire team of Avengers, Carol Danvers is much more than just someone Iron Man can’t beat – she is simply on another level. By power alone, she could lead the Avengers, but thankfully, she has intelligence and tactical knowledge, all of which elevate her to the rank of Celestial. Captain Marvel Is Casually the Strongest Hero There Is

Carol Danvers Takes to the Sky

There are many times that a superhero will perform a feat that both serves the story and satisfies audiences, but to have a hero’s actual power level clarified so dismissively is almost more important than a display of their power. Because if it’s spoken casually, that means it’s common knowledge, and if it’s common knowledge, that means it’s nothing to argue about. So, everybody knows the real Captain Marvel is practically a Celestial. Nobody is arguing that fact, it seems.

Even though Captain Marvel is on the same level as a Celestial, she’s still a part of the Avengers. Because she’s human first and foremost. She invites She-Hulk to her party, showing that though she may be several steps up in the superhero evolution, she’s still Carol Danvers. Captain Marvel may just be the most human Celestial of all.
