Marvel and DC just announced a major crossover that could potentially lead to a monumental game that many comic fans have dreamed about. For years, Marvel and DC have been competing as the two biggest brands in the comic book industry. Both have huge names at their disposal, which have led to plenty of success outside of comics. Marvel and DC have both created great animated series, movies, and video games in the past. The two making crossover comics could be a good omen for things to come, especially for the possibilities the idea opens for future video games.

The environment for future superhero video games is a complicated one. The recent launch of Marvel Rivals went brilliantly, catapulting the game to mainstream popularity immediately. However, there have also been many recent issues, with games based on popular heroes like Wonder Woman and Black Panther getting cancelled after previously being hyped. While superheroes took over the world of movies for a while, their success has not been as clear-cut in the gaming world. There’s still plenty of chance for a breakout hit, as the Batman Arkham and Marvel vs. Capcom games proved. It just takes the right game to do it.

Marvel’s Deadpool VR may have already jumped the gun by confirming it will feature a major villain that has yet to make their long-overdue MCU debut.

Marvel and DC Are Coming Out With Crossover Comics

In recent years, seeing characters from Marvel and DC in Fortnite together seemed to be the closest that fans could get to a real crossover between the two companies. However, that may no longer be the case thanks to a massive announcement. Marvel and DC will be releasing two crossover comics later in the year, Deadpool/Batman and Batman/Deadpool. It’s the first time that Marvel and DC have had a legitimate crossover project since the Amalgam comics experiment in 1996. Each company is reasonably spotlighting one of their most popular characters in the crossover, but it could be the first step towards something even greater.

Amalgam comics primarily featured characters that were combinations of Marvel and DC characters, rather than Marvel and DC characters together.

A Marvel vs. DC Game Could Finally be Possible

A game in the vein of the classic Marvel vs. Capcom series could be the perfect way to capitalize on this new partnership. While the Marvel vs. Capcom games were plenty of fun, the idea of a game featuring the stars of Marvel and DC together sounds like something out of a comic fan’s dream. While both companies collectively had most of the world’s most popular superheroes, the chance to get them together had never manifested in the form of a game. Now that Marvel and DC are ready to cooperate, a Marvel vs. DC game could finally be in the cards.

Marvel and DC Both Have Extensive Rosters For Video Games

It helps that both companies have more than enough characters to choose from. The launch roster of Marvel Rivals alone showed how much depth the company has, and DC could easily match it in that department. In addition to a huge amount of popular characters, Marvel and DC both have characters with unique and versatile abilities that would be fun to play as. Reptil’s dinosaur transformations, Slapstick’s cartoon powers, and The Creeper’s bizarre antics are just three examples of lesser-known heroes whose abilities could make them a lot of fun to play. A Marvel and DC video game could spotlight popular and unique characters alike.

Marvel and DC could positioned to spearhead an incredible gaming milestone. While speculation on the story of Injustice 3 and Marvel Rivals‘ next patch are alive right now, both companies could give fans something new to get excited about. A Marvel vs. DC game could finally give fans the chance to see some of the biggest superheroes and villains in comics go head-to-head in a game. Marvel vs. DC has existed as a fantasy for years. With Marvel and DC’s new cooperation, it could become a reality at last.
