Comic book fans are totally geeked out over a major announcement.
Marvel and DC, the two biggest comic publishing companies, are pairing up after their ongoing commercial feud. After all, both media powerhouses have grown absolute empires with their stories growing from beyond the typical comics and into cinematic universes. Now, the beloved superheroes that fans know and love, are going to start seeing some crossovers.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Marvel said, “Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth meets DC’s Dark Knight this September in ‘Marvel/DC: Deadpool/Batman’ #1, the first of two crossovers between Marvel and DC more than twenty years in the making!”

The Deadpool (Marvel) and Batman (DC) story brings together two of the comic book industry’s snarkiest characters who are known for rich inner monologues and solid banter. The one shot will be written by Zeb Wells and drawn by Greg Capullo.
The canonical universes will intersect when Wade Wilson gets hired for a job in Gotham City. Deadpool and Batman are expected to join together in an uneasy and questionable alliance for an intense case.
According to the Marvel website, Greg said, “Am I dreaming? This crossover is likely to be the high point of my career … and, I’ve had a great career. Some of my earliest work (many years ago) was on X-FORCE (1991), so Deadpool and I go way back. More recently, I spent 10-plus years drawing Batman at DC. The idea that I get to do a crossover event with Deadpool and Batman…If I am dreaming, please don’t wake me!”
Zeb expressed similar excitement, added in conversation with Entertainment Weekly, “After writing AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (2022) for 60 issues, I told Marvel I needed a break. Marvel told me I could do that or I could write a comic starring Deadpool and Batman with the best Batman artist of our generation. I no longer needed a break.
“In Batman we’ve found someone who has even less time for Deadpool’s antics than Wolverine, but a city-wide threat from the Joker makes strange bedfellows (literally, if Deadpool had his way). It’s been a blast letting Deadpool loose in Gotham City and watching what happens.”
Additional team members and creators have yet to be revealed. However, Marvel and DC did spill to the fans the release date — September 17. San Diego Comic Con is right on the horizon, coming up in July, so fingers crossed updates will be dropped.
Fans are begging for Marvel and DC to make this the new norm. “Let’s make this a more common thing, the comic book medium will be a better place when both companies work together,” said one fan. Another added, “PLEEASSSEE DONT MAKE THIS A LIMITED TIME THING THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE WHEN MARVEL AND DC COLLABORATE THIS IS F—ING EPIC.”
“The mix of Deadpool’s chaotic humor and Batman’s serious, detective vibe is a recipe for some seriously entertaining storytelling,” a fan said. After all, in all variations of Deadpool, including Ryan Reynolds‘ MCU version, he’s known for being a bit over-the-top in an absolute charming way. However, Batman, played by Robert Pattinson most recently in the cinema, is far more rough and gruff.
Fans are open to the possibility of seeing the combo hit the big screen. One said, “I haven’t read comic books in years and you know what I’m going to have to get this. Oh and just to throw this out there to you all in marvel and Disney and DC and Warner Brothers! Instant hit if you did this movie.”
Another fan added, “batman would friggen HATE wade with a bloody passion. what i’d like to see is deadpool meeting up with deathstroke the terminator.”

A third added, “This is sick! Two total opposites in terms of personality—this is going to be OD. We’d never get a crossover like this outside of the comics, but maybe this will spark some hype for a full show or movie-length animated project… or maybe even live action, though that’s probably a long shot lol.”
