Warning: Contains spoilers for Aliens vs. Avengers #3!
Though Captain Marvelis one of Marvel’s most powerful characters, a sci-fi horror crossover series has proven that Carol Danvers actually has a glaring weakness, as the Avengers clash with the Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise. Especially with the high-flying action that she’s pulled off in the movies, Carol may seem like one of the most formidable Marvel superheroes against a Xenomorph horde, but there’s one major issue.
Aliens vs. Avengers #3, written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Esad Ribić, finds Carol’s Captain Marvel as one of the last Avengers standing in a universe ravaged by Xenomorphs. She’s already outlived many major heroes in the series, but in one fight, Captain Marvel’s face is horribly burned by a splash of Xenomorph blood.
Captain Marvel is saved by the universe’s only surviving X-Men, but not without some serious damage being done. Carol’s face is scarred from the attack, and she’s still sporting an eyepatch later, revealing that the Alien creatures’ acidic biology can brutally harm the mighty hero.
Captain Marvel Has No Defense Against The Xenomorph’s Acid Blood
Aliens vs. Avengers #3; Written By Jonathan Hickman; Art By Esad Ribić; Color By Ive Svorcina; Lettering By VC’s Cory Petit
Xenomorph blood is responsible for some of the Alien franchise’s scariest scenes, and the extraterrestrial acid substance is now one of the biggest known weaknesses for Captain Marvel. Though there have been some slight differences and inconsistencies with the acidity of Xenomorph blood across the franchise’s many entries in film, comics, and more, the devastating consequences of drawing the species’ blood have been shown since the first movie. Immediately after the Xenomorph’s blood is shed, its potent corrosive fluid can burn through and eat away at pretty much any material, now officially including Carol Danvers’ super-durable skin in this universe.

From the uber-intelligent MODOK to the manipulative Moonstone, these villains are the greatest threats Captain Marvel has faced in her career.
There have been many different versions of Captain Marvel in the Marvel Comics multiverse, and Carol Danvers has gone up against countless alien species, but Alien’s Xenomorphs and their defensive blood-spilling create a unique problem for the hero. Even if she tries to energy-blast her way out of a horde of rabid Xenomorphs, her vulnerability to their blood means offensive attacks could actually cause more damage. Carol may be one of the universe’s few superhero survivors in Aliens vs. Avengers, but she may not have made it out alive if she weren’t rescued by mutants like Emma Frost and Armor.
Their Cosmic Clash Leaves No One Untouched
With the reveal that their blood has the ability to incapacitate Captain Marvel, Xenomorphs have become the perfect threat for the hero to face, and their well-suited match-up proves that Marvel crossing over with the Alien franchise isn’t so outlandish. Even years before the Aliens vs. Avengers limited series was announced, the potential for Captain Marvel to fight Xenomorphs was already being highlighted by the publisher, like in a variant cover by Jamie McKelvie. Carol has drawn comparisons to and been inspired by Sigourney Weaver’s Alien heroine Ellen Ripley, especially with her cat-like pet Chewie, or Goose in the MCU.

Avengers Fight For Survival Against Xenomorphs in Marvel’s New Epic Crossover
The Avengers stand no chance against the galaxy’s most terrifying parasites in this horrifically gruesome and unsettlingly liminal crossover series.
Hickman and Ribić’s series sees an older and hardened version of the hero, leading the Avengers in an Alien apocalypse, and it’s already become one of the coolest depictions of the hero. Carol is tougher and angrier than ever, and rightfully so, as she’s seen her world viciously torn apart by the invasion. As the Avengers prepare for battle against the Xenomorphs and other villains in the finale to the four-part crossover, the acid-injured Captain Marvel leads the heroes’ final stand. While this series is in an alternate universe, it’s a strong example that Carol should fight Xenomorphs more often.
The Alien Franchise Will Probably Never Cross Over With the MCU, But It Should
Marvel’s Comic Crossover Proves The Concept’s Cinematic Potential
Never say never with Hollywood, but it seems like the Marvel and Alien crossovers will exist solely in the pages of their comics and won’t be moving over to the big screen anytime soon. However, with the new limited series being a critical success, Aliens vs. Avengers proves that the superhero universe can seamlessly blend with the characters and creatures of the sci-fi horror franchise. Even many villains of the Marvel Universe have trouble standing against the likes of Avengers like Captain Marvel, but the Xenomorphs have a fighting chance against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and can create truly thrilling battles.
While it may seem farfetched for the MCU now, maybe Marvel Studios will be able to recreate Carol Danvers’ Xenomorph battle in the movies at some point.
Alien has crossed over with the Predator in their respective film franchises, and that series’ Yautja are also terrorizing another Marvel Comics universe in a separate adventure. So, while it may seem farfetched for the MCU now, maybe Marvel Studios will be able to recreate Carol Danvers’ Xenomorph battle in the movies at some point. If a potential Avengers and Alien crossover follows the rules of the comics, Captain Marvel will have to watch out for what could be her most deadly weakness, with all the Xenomorph blood she’s forced to spill.
