JM DeMatteis Is a Comic Book Writing Legend

The DeMultiverse Might Be His Crowning Achievement

JM DeMatteis’ long and storied career in the comics field has seen him write nearly every major character at both Marvel and DC. His bibliography is loaded with classic runs, including The New Defenders at Marvel. DeMatteis also penned the legendary “Kraven’s Last Hunt” story, considered by many to be a definitive Spider-Man story. At DC, DeMatteis, along with Kevin Maguire and Keith Giffen, retooled the Justice League in the mid-1980s, bringing the team into the modern era. In addition to a solid body of comics work, DeMatteis has also written extensively for animation, including Constantine: City of Demons.

In 2022, DeMatteis joined forces with Spellbound Comics to bring fans his magnum opus: The DeMultiverse. Launching via Kickstarter, The DeMultiverse kicked off with the first issues of each title. Fans were invited to vote for which title moved on to get a full run. Once the books were in fans’ hands, something interesting happened: Spellbound gave an option for each book to get a second issue–and fans overwhelmingly chose this one. The result was a pleasant surprise, and speaks volumes to how compelling each of The DeMultiverse’s first issues were.

The DeMultiverse Phase Two Promises to Be Even Better

DeMatteis Is Joined by Some Truly Great Artists

Now, Spellbound and JM DeMatteis have returned for another exciting phase of The DeMultiverse. As with the first, Phase Two of The DeMultiverse comes with some truly awesome rewards for backers. In addition to the standard comics, Spellbound is offering the aforementioned variant covers, as well as bundles. Perhaps the best reward backers can receive is a 40-minute Zoom session with JM DeMatteis, in which fans can talk with him about everything from his time on Spider-Man and Justice League to The DeMultiverse Phase Two. The DeMultiverse Phase One was something special, and Phase Two looks to continue the streak.
