A new rumor has suggested a twist to the character that Sacha Baron Cohen might be portraying in the upcoming MCU series Ironheart. Reports about Baron Cohen’s inclusion in the cast have been around for a while, with some speculating that he might be playing Mephisto, a powerful demonic entity from Marvel Comics. However, this new rumor suggests that Baron Cohen’s character might also have a connection to Dormammu, an extra and inter-dimensional demonic being that made his first MCU appearance in 2016’s Doctor Strange.
Industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH took to X (formerly Twitter) and claimed, “Sacha Baron Cohen is playing Mephisto Dormammu in Ironheart.” While the description might confuse fans, the scooper might have meant that Cohen would have a Dormammu connection in Ironheart.
Back in October 2022, Deadline reported on speculations about Sacha Baron Cohen joining the Ironheart cast as Mephisto. At the time, reps for both Marvel and Baron Cohen declined to provide a comment on the matter. In October 2023, various outlets published articles stating that Baron Cohen had been credited as “Mystery Man” in a copyright filing for Ironheart on the U.S. Copyright Office Public Records System. The actual project in which Mephisto might make his debut has been speculated upon as well. A section of Marvel fans thought that he might appear in Agatha All Along, which had nine episodes that originally streamed on Disney+ between September 18, 2024, and October 30, 2024. Although that didn’t happen, his name was mentioned, which effectively confirmed his existence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And now, if the new rumor turns out to be true, fans might get a Mephisto in the MCU who will be different from his most familiar version from the comics.
Notably, Chinaka Hodge created Ironheart for Marvel Studios. The series’ primary cast includes Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams / Ironheart, Anthony Ramos as Parker Robbins / The Hood, and Lyric Ross as Natalie Washington. The series premieres on Disney+ on June 24, 2025.
