The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)
has done an incredible job introducing overwhelmingly powerful characters without breaking the balance of the Multiverse, so I’m sure it could handle a few more favorites from the comics. The MCU may be based on original ideas from Marvel Comics, but in adapting these concepts to the big and small screens, the creatives need to handle the IP carefully. Otherwise, the MCU could fall apart with ridiculously overpowered characters who could wipe out all reality.

And while this level of threat is common in the comics, where reboots, reality jumps, and new timelines are born constantly, it’s a bigger challenge to replicate in the movies. However, Marvel has seen Thanos wipe out half of all life in the universe, the Multiverse being threatened to end before Loki stepped in, and the incredibly powerful Scarlet Witch reshape reality, all without losing credibility. So, maybe it’s time to introduce some of the other incredible cosmically powered heroes in the MCU.

Kobik The Living Cosmic Cube

First up, a character that has some things in common with both the Tesseract and Ego the Living Planet. Kobik is a literal sentient cosmic cube, though they are made from fragments of their cube form, and they take on the shape of a young girl for the most part. And the reason they can change their form is because of their incredible reality-warping powers.

10 Superhero Movies With The Best Origin Stories

Origin stories are an essential feature in every superhero movie, and the very best have become truly iconic and foundational to the genre.

Kobik was responsible for changing history to make Steve Rogers’ Captain America into an undercover HYDRA agent, and at one point, they had a relationship with Bucky Barnes and helped to form a Thunderbolts team. With that in mind, it could be a perfect time to bring Kobik in, especially if Chris Evans makes a cameo in Avengers: Doomsday as the Hydra version of Cap.

Hyperion

Hyperion is essentially Superman crossed with an atomic bomb. He is an Eternal, with an exceptional collection of powers that make him near invincible. From a healing factor, to flight, to shooting atomic rays from his eyes, Hyperion is so much more than most superheroes. In some ways, Hyperion is comparable to Sentry, who was just introduced in Thunderbolts*, but he doesn’t have the drawbacks of the Void.

In general, characters like this can work well when they are seen to also possess intense moral codes that cause them to act carefully, and exercise restraint. In some ways, Hyperion does have this, and he does align himself with other heroes, but he’s an interesting figure who could be a fun addition to the MCU. However, there is a risk of creating too many Superman copycat heroes with Hyperion, Sentry, and other heroes like them.

7

The One Above All

During the Multiverse Saga, the MCU has begun to put more focus on ancient and powerful forces that exist beyond the worlds themselves. For instance, Thor: Love & Thunder introduced Eternity, the literal embodiment of space. But Marvel Comics has introduced several beings in this category, with one of the most interesting being The One Above All.

10 Best Thunderbolts* Characters, Ranked

Thunderbolts* places an emphasis on mental health by taking MCU antiheroes and giving them the chance to be heroes by facing their inner demons.

The One Above All is older than all time and space, and they appear to be the ultimate creative force behind everything in the Marvel Universe. As such, they are presumed to be the most powerful being in existence, exceeding the abilities of all of its creations. However, that is also part of the reason they hold themselves apart from reality, and they tend not to interfere in anything happening within the bounds of reality.

6

Annihilus

While The One Above All serves to create and build, there are other beings who exist outside reality and have nothing but destruction and hatred in their hearts, or the hole where a heart should be. Annihilus is one such being. This insectoid-looking creature exists inside a pocket dimension known as the Negative Zone.

In the comics, the Negative Zone is frequently referenced, but so far, the MCU has done very little to introduce it. However, with The Fantastic Four about to arrive, and Spider-Man’s story getting increasingly complex, the Negative Zone could finally make an appearance. And if it does, Annihilus is likely not far behind, as he seeks to cause chaos and destruction beyond the bounds of his reality.

5

Mephisto

Mephisto is essentially Marvel’s version of the devil. This demon-like creature rules over another pocket dimension full of fire and brimstone which he calls Hell. However, Mephisto uses human beliefs in order to manipulate and cause fear wherever possible. And up to this point, the MCU has hinted strongly at the character appearing in shows like WandaVision and Agatha All Along. However, he remains absent.

If you had to pick two MCU actors and swap their roles, who are you picking?

It’s a fun MCU thought experiment to pick two actors and have them swap roles. For example, one MCU role swap I think would be really cool would be if Benedict Cumberbatch played Iron Man while Robert Downey Jr. played Doctor Strange. Another good one might be be Scarlett Johannseen as the Scarlet Witch and Elizabeth Olsen as Black Widow.

It would be interesting to finally see this character appear after so much teasing. Especially considering how much his character ties in with the supernatural side of Marvel Comics, and the presence of several supernatural stories in the TV shows in particular. And the extent of his power puts him on a level that could make him a real threat to characters like the Scarlet Witch, which could lead to an interesting rivalry in the MCU.

4

Phoenix Force

Previous Marvel movies have attempted to adapt Jean Grey and the power that is known as the Phoenix Force, but in both efforts, the outcome was less than stellar. Considering how much the MCU has been able to accomplish with characters who had no real following before, and the way it delivered solid new adaptations of characters like Spider-Man, there are high hopes that it could finally do Jean Grey’s story justice.

The Phoenix Force is actually a being that predates Jean Grey, and possesses enormous powers that can destroy and design at will. And when something manages to kill it, the Phoenix Force is simply reborn, ready to grow and advance once again, making it essentially unstoppable. When the X-Men officially become a part of the story, the MCU may finally be able to tell this story in a way that conveys the full scale of the character and its powers.

3

Living Tribunal

As The One Above All exists outside reality and the Multiverse, he does have a delegate that he relies on to be his representative within the bounds of reality. This being is known as the Living Tribunal, and it is the embodiment of law and order in the Multiverse. Imbued with power from The One Above All, the Living Tribunal is incredibly powerful.

17 Years Into The MCU, I’m Convinced These Are The 10 Best Movies To Rewatch Again & Again

The MCU is a spectacular franchise, but there are some movies that stand head and shoulders above the rest in a way that defines the franchise.

While this is obviously a character that would be challenging to include inside the MCU, there is a chance that they could introduce this character in a way that makes sense. For the most part, it would not need to engage in trivial pursuits, and due to its grand perspective, what appears important to the heroes would likely not be notable to them. However, it could be a great character to include if the threat to the Multiverse becomes too great.

2

The Beyonder

The Beyonder is one being who exists as part of a race of beings with seemingly limitless powers. These creatures, unlike The One Above All or Eternity, are more willing to play with reality, and experiment on the living things inside the Multiverse. However, The Beyonder grew up in a pocket universe that he thought was all existence, until one day, his reality was breached, and the extent of the Multiverse sprawled out before him.

Curious about other forms of life, The Beyonder began to manipulate heroes and villains into challenges, and he created the Battleworld to watch these experiments play out. With Avengers: Secret Wars around the corner, the Battleworld is set to appear soon, and if the MCU wants to draw inspiration from the comics, The Beyonder is likely an important part of the story.

1

Franklin Richards

However, if the stakes are raised to such a level that beings like The Beyonder appear, then the heroes will need an equally powerful being to be on their side and help dismantle the Battleworld. That is where someone like Franklin Richards, the son of Sue Storm and Reed Richards, comes in. While Franklin is a human, born to two mortal parents, albeit super parents, Franklin is also potentially the most powerful mutant to ever be born.
