WARNING! Spoilers for Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur 10th Anniversary Special #1

Reed Richards may be widely regarded as the smartest hero in the Marvel Universe, but the Thing has shown that he thinks another hero could give the Fantastic Four‘s leader a run for his money. Moon Girl has long rivaled Reed’s intelligence, and thanks to the Thing, it’s been confirmed that Mister Fantastic’s closest friends would trust her genius over his.

In the preview for Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur 10th Anniversary Special #1 by Brandon Montclare, Natacha Bustos, Luis Guerrero, and Travis Lanham, Moon Girl has requested various birthday presents from different Marvel heroes. She seeks Captain America’s shield, Doctor Strange’s Eye of Agamotto, and Reed Richards’ Ultimate Nullifier.

Reed describes this device as “the most dangerous object in the known universe”, since it’s capable of defeating Galactus, and he tells the Thing not to give it to Lunella. However, the Thing disobeys Reed and hands it over since “Moon Girl knows best”, showing that he trusts her judgment over Mister Fantastic’s.

The Thing Knows Moon Girl Is Smarter Than Reed Richards

The Fantastic Four Agree That Mister Fantastic Has Met His Match

Moon Girl, also known as Lunella Lafayette, is a young prodigy who ranks among the smartest heroes that Marvel Comics has to offer. Alongside Devil Dinosaur, Lunella has cemented herself as an impressive hero alongside the classic characters of the comics, though her mind is easily her most commendable asset. She’s put many other Marvel geniuses in their place when they’ve tried to contest her brilliance, such as when she insulted Iron Man by outsmarting him while wearing rollerskates. Moon Girl is young, yet she’s already smarter than the likes of Reed Richards, and the Thing is right to recognize that – even if Reed himself is in denial.

Reed Richards Resurrects His Forgotten Superpower, Showing Why He’s the Fantastic Four’s Leader

Mister Fantastic just brought back a forgotten ability that pushes his strength to surprising heights and redefines his classic superpowers.

In Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #47 by Brandon Montclare and Alitha Martinez, Reed Richards is confronted with the fact that Moon Girl might be smarter than him. She challenges him to the Banner B.O.X., or the “Brain Omnicompetence Examiner”, which Bruce Banner designed as a means of measuring one’s intellect. Reed struggles with the device, whereas Lunella passes the test with flying colors and asserts herself as the superior mind between the two of them. Reed Richards is undoubtedly smart, but it’s time for him to face the music and accept that Moon Girl’s genius surpasses his.

Mister Fantastic Is No Longer Marvel’s Smartest Hero (Sorry, Reed)

Reed Richards May Be a Genius, But Moon Girl Puts Him to Shame

It’s no secret that Reed Richards ranks among the most knowledgeable characters within Marvel lore, as he’s built countless inventions over the years that cement him as such, including – but not limited to – his Ultimate Nullifier. In discussions about characters who could potentially challenge him intellectually, Iron Man is frequently brought up due to his own impressive mind, but Moon Girl has demonstrated that she’s his greatest rival among the hero community. If the Thing can entrust her with a dangerous device despite Reed Richards‘ warnings, then the Fantastic Four‘s members can all likely agree that Moon Girl is the smarter of these heroes.
