Marvel Studios’ upcoming Daredevil: Born Again is one of the most highly anticipated Marvel projects coming. According to the company’s head of streaming, the new series has a lot in common to X-Men ’97.

Speaking during an appearance on the Official Marvel Podcast this week, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television and Animation Brad Winderbaum likened Daredevil: Born Again to X-Men ’97, saying the project manages to revive something people loved while also taking it to entirely new heights.

“Daredevil is incredible. It’s similar in some ways to X-Men ’97, because it’s reviving something that the fans love, but it is taking it in a new direction,” said Winderbaum. “These characters have matured. The universe is different than it was. Things have changed. Society’s changed.”

Winderbaum also hinted at the coming conflict between Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. According to Winderbaum, the pair’s relationship has changed, and isn’t just about wanting to kill each other now.

“Matt and Wilson have changed, and their characters are gonna collide in ways we’ve never seen before,” Winderbaum said. “It’s no longer enough to try and murder each other, there’s a whole game of politics at play.”

Daredevil: Born Again hails from showrunner Dario Scardapane and directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.

The upcoming MCU revival will also feature return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/ Punisher, and Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter/ Bullseye. Joining them are franchise newcomers Sandrine Holt, Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, Michael Gaston, Nikki M. James, Arty Froushan, and Genneya Walton.

Both Cox and D’Onofrio already made their Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts in 2021, with Kingpin guest-starring in the Hawkeye series and Matt Murdock/Daredevil briefly appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In 2022, Cox also had a two-episode appearance on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, where he showed off a lighter side of the hero. Most recently, Cox and D’Onofrio starred in the Alaqua Cox-led miniseries Echo.
