Everyone is curious about what’s going to bring the DC Universe and the Marvel Universe together. But as the Big Two work towards reuniting after over two decades apart, the real question is which character team-ups are the ones that need to happen?
Back during the heyday of Marvel and DC’s crossovers, fans got a number of intriguing match-ups. Spider-Man and Superman were two of the first to interact while the Teen Titans and the X-Men infamously came together in a fan-favorite story. But with hype growing by the day, what would be some of the most satisfying team-ups for DC and Marvel’s brand-new crossover?
DC and Marvel’s Next Crossover is Prime Potential for New Crossovers
The Big Two Should Emphasize Never-Before-Done Team-Ups
Fans went absolutely wild at the news from this years ComicsPRO, where Marvel and DC Comics respective Editors-in-Chief C.B. Cebulksi and Marie Javins confirmed a crossover was in the works. Two one-shots, one produced by each publisher, will be the first time the Big Two have collaborated in over two decades. Since ComicsPRO, fans everywhere have been speculating on how the next crossover will go and, more importantly, which heroes will meet one another in Marvel and DC Comics’ next crossover.
That’s right, JLA/Avengers (2003) was the last official crossover between Marvel and DC!
Everyone has heroes they want to interact, but which ones should be prioritized? Fans have seen Superman fight the Hulk and Green Lantern work with the Silver Surfer, so any new crossovers should go outside the box and allow team-ups fans haven’t seen yet. For example, how have two of the richest superheroes, Batman and Iron Man, never had a dedicated adventure together? Or Captain America and Wonder Woman, both noble heroes with big hearts and fighting spirits? And come on, who wouldn’t want to see the Flash and Spider-Man team up to fight the Sinister Six and the Rogues?
Marvel and DC could really push their crossover to the next level…
Not to mention, there’s an entire generation of heroes who emerged after Marvel and DC stopped collaborating. Like Superman’s son Jon Kent and Spider-Man Miles Morales. It’d be interesting to see a story where they fight side-by-side while discussing their respective legacies. Or what about Spider-Boy and Damian Wayne? Given their controversial pasts, that could make for an entertaining story. Heck, Marvel and DC could really push their crossover to the next level and have their new and incredibly popular Ultimate and Absolute variants meet to capitalize on those lines’ success.
Marvel and DC Comics Shouldn’t Be Afraid to Get Weird with New Crossover
Fans Don’t Want The Big Two to Play it Safe
While crossovers between DC and Marvel are not exactly uncharted territory, it’s been a while since the publishers have collaborated, and they might want to play this crossover safe. But for many readers, this will be the first time they’ve ever seen the Big Two interact, and they want it to get wild. Would it make sense to retread familiar territory and have Daredevil and Batman meet again or have the Avengers and the Justice League work together? Sure. But this is a rare opportunity and DC and Marvel should go wild with this crossover.
No matter the franchises involved, crossovers are always at their best when creators go for the unpredictable. So for the upcoming Marvel and DC crossover, the publishers should go for the unexpected. Have Hulk smash his way through the Titans! See how Constantine and Zatanna do in a battle with Wolverine! Make Thor and Flash team up to stop Reverse-Flash and Loki from working together! By thinking outside the box with this crossover, Marvel and DC Comics could make their next crossover something truly special.
…at the end of the day, fans just want to be surprised and left satisfied with what they get.
Is the upcoming crossover going to please everyone? More than likely not. There’s an endless amount of combinations when it comes to team-ups between the two universe’s heroes and some are bound to feel sore that their favorites were left out. But at the end of the day, fans just want to be surprised and left satisfied with what they get. While there’s definitely something to be said about putting logical characters together, this crossover could be a lot more engaging for fans by creating Marvel and DC team-ups they never saw coming.
Fans are Ready for Real Creativity with Upcoming Marvel/DC Crossover
Give Readers Something They Haven’t Ever Seen Before
Who knows if this will be the only crossover between Marvel and DC for the foreseeable future? But if it is, then it shouldn’t be afraid to get a little strange. That’s not to say Batman and Iron Man can’t have an adventure together, but why not mix it up and have Deadpool or Booster Gold along for the ride? Merging these two worlds again creates endless opportunities and hopefully, when Marvel and DC crossover again, the creators involved will really make the most of this chance.
