April’s best-selling graphic novels revealed.

Marvel teases Killuminati.

Bags and boards hit by tariffs.

This is Comic Book Club News for May 12, 2025.

The best-selling graphic novels of April 2025 have been revealed, and the big winner is a scrappy new title called Invincible.

Specifically, Image Comics’ Invincible Digest Edition, Vol. 1, which came out in 2023, rocketed to the top of the charts. Why? Unclear, though it sat at number two on last month’s chart — so it might be continued interest, plus the general lack of new, strong performers. And in fact, five more editions of Invincible charted as well, including two more digests, and two Compendiums.

Image captured the number two slot as well with Saga, Vol. 12, and nine slots total including the aforementioned books. Rounding out the top five was Ultimate Spider-Man, Vol. 2, Batman: Hush, and It’s Jeff: Jeff-Verse, in that order.

DC Comics was light in April, with only four Compact Comics editions charting. Meanwhile, Marvel did better than usual with six books in the Top 20, including another volume of Ultimate Spider-Man, Uncanny X-Men, Ultimate Black Panther, and a new printing of Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Again.

The lone entry from another publisher? Oh, you know it was IDW with TMNT: The Last Ronin.

Who are the Killuminati? You’ll find out in the new series New Avengers — but Marvel is teasing the twisted versions of their heroes early.

Written by Sam Humphries with art by Ton Lima, the new series will team up a weird assortment of characters like Black Widow, Carnage, and Laura Kinney Wolverine. And they’ll be facing down bizarre clones with “their worst traits magnified and their hubris unchecked.”

Those include Bolt, a hulking Black Bolt clone, Mr. Ourobouros, a pile of goo that looks like Mister Fantastic, Guru Strange, who you can probably figure out for yourself, Professor X-Tinction, a ‘roided out version of Professor X, Iron Apex, a broken cyborg version of Iron Man, and of course: Luke Charles, who is Black Panther in a suit. Looks good!

You’ll meet the Killuminati in New Avengers #1, which hits stores on June 11.

While we’ve spent a fair amount of time discussing how tariffs might hit the comic book industry, one aspect that hasn’t been discussed as much and is being impacted? Bags and boards.

Per Bleeding Cool, Lunar Distribution has advised retailers in the US that BCW, a major manufacturer of comic book bags and boards, has been forced to raise prices on all of their products due to the US tariffs. The “news” outlet doesn’t list the price, nor offer any other details, though does mention they will be subject to the 150% tariffs.

So why is BCW being hit, particularly as the company is based in Indiana? A quick investigation of fellow bag and board supplier Comic Pro Line shows that while their boxes say “made in Canada,” the bags and boards are actually crafted in China — or at least were, as of 2023. And a listing on a site called Wizard Coin Supply notes that BCW bags are made in China, as well.

So going out on a limb, given the trade war between China and the US, the prices of bags and boards won’t be going down any time soon.
