Actor and director Andy Serkis discusses Venom: The Last Dance‘s Knull’s possible return in future Marvel movies after his defeat in Sony’s Venom threequel. Serkis directed Venom: Let There Be Carnage and appeared in Venom: The Last Dance as Venom’s main antagonist, Knull a.k.a. the King in Black. Although Venom and Knull never crossed paths, Venom: The Last Dance‘s ending sees Knull’s plans to escape Kylntar and invade Earth thwarted by Venom’s sacrifice.
Speaking to Screen Rant at FAN EXPO San Francisco 2024, Andy Serkis reveals that his casting as Knull in Venom: The Last Dance was a “last-minute” addition to the movie, and he voices his interest in returning as the king of the symbiotes. When asked whether Knull will return to fight Spider-Man in a future Marvel movie, Serkis responds “I don’t mind doing that!”. Well, that’s also very interesting. I really, genuinely have no idea. It was very much, “Can you come in?” It was quite last minute, actually. “Can you come in and do the voice for Knull?” So, I came in and did it on the stage. Then there was talk of, “This could go on… He’s quite a big character,” and I was like, “Yeah, I know that.” Well, let’s see what happens, actually.
Knull’s Introduction In Venom: The Last Dance May Be The Beginning Of His Story
Venom: The Last Dance completes a cycle for Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and Venom, as they’re forced to part ways in order to protect the Earth from Knull’s attack. However, Venom’s sacrifice probably won’t be the last time a symbiote will star in a movie set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Venom: The Last Dance‘s mid-credits and post-credits scenes suggest that Knull’s threat is far from neutralized. Knull promises to return in Venom: The Last Dance‘s mid-credits tease, and a symbiote escapes Area 51’s wreckage by bonding to a cockroach in the post-credits scene.
Marvel Theory Explains How Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock Can Still Fight Knull Without Venom
After Venom: The Last Dance, Sony can still introduce a new Venom symbiote for Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock to bond with and protect the world.
Knull’s most important story in Marvel lore is his main antagonist role in the King in Black storyline, which centers around his invasion of Earth and all Marvel heroes’ attempt to stop him. Marvel Comics’ King in Black storyline makes Knull Venom’s equivalent to Thanos — a universe-threatening supervillain who requires dozens of powerful heroes to defeat. Hence, Knull could be the ideal villain to justify a multiversal crossover between the MCU’s Spider-Man and the characters introduced in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
Venom And His Villains Are The Most Likely Sony Marvel Characters To Cross Over With The MCU’s Spider-Man
A crossover between Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe seems almost inevitable, as Spider-Man’s ownership of the symbiote and his feud with Venom are a key element of Spider-Man’s comic book lore. However, there are various ways Marvel and Sony could make this crossover happen. Given the large scope of Knull’s vengeance, a King in Black adaptation that involves the multiverse could bring Knull and Venom back and allow the MCU’s Spider-Man to play an important role in the storyline.
