Marvel’s Head of Animation Brad Winderbaum recently talked about Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. During this, Winderbaum spoke very highly of the project.

While giving an interview to ComicBook.com, Winderbaum avowed that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is “amazing, to say the least,” and that he thinks it’s going to surprise people. “It is very much like a cut from that Steve Ditko era of the comics,” he added “It’s Peter Parker back in high school just trying to make it work, take care of his aunt, completely broke, and having to be a superhero. It’s so essentially Spider-Man, and what Jeff Trammell, the creator of that show, did, which I think people are going to love, is he built this ensemble of characters around Peter that you fall in love with. Similarly, just because it’s long-form storytelling, as those relationships brew when the stakes rise in that first season, things feel really tragic and dangerous, and pretty incredible. So, I love that show.

Marvel Studios’ Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Gets First Logo

Disney reveals the first logo for Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which was formerly titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year.

Winderbaum’s comments match up with ones he made in an earlier interview where he had previously sung Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘s praises, conveying at the time that it’s “so great” and that Trammell and his team “know how to make you invest in characters.” Trammell himself also talked about the show, affirming that he “eager for everyone” was to see it.

Besides these, Winderbaum confirmed in 2022 that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Mandoesn’t take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Earth-616. Winderbaum remarked that it “follows the pattern that you see in [Captain America:] Civil War,” down to Peter “getting the broken Blu-ray player from the trash and he walks into his department for the famous moment where Tony Stark is waiting for him to offer him the Stark internship and take him to Berlin.”

Winderbaum continued that because of “things that happen in the multiverse because of new, random occurrences,” it isn’t Tony Stark waiting for him, it’s Norman Osborn and that sends Peter’s life “in an unexpected trajectory that collides him with many unexpected characters in the Marvel universe.”

Hannibal Star to Voice Doc Ock in Spider-Man: Freshman Year

Marvel Studios reveals who will voice Otto Octavious/Doctor Octopus in the animated prequel series Spider-Man: Freshman Year.

Additionally, a synopsis in a registration record from the U.S. Copyright Office fleshed out Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘s plot. Per the synopsis in question, Peter’s life will be “forever changed” by unnamed events while he’s getting ready for his High School registration and said events will send Peter on “a journey like none before.” The synopsis also declared that the pilot episode will have viewers discover that “the new era of Spider-Man begins here!”

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is expected to weave its web around Disney+ in November 2024.
