The next saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could feature more supernatural and darker films, as well as a potential Battleworld film.
During a recent question and answer post on The Cosmic Circus, Alex Perez was asked whether or not more movies set in the dark/supernatural corner of the MCU would be explored.
Perez said that stuff like that was “definitely” coming in the next MCU saga, although he didn’t open up about what fans can expect. Another question in the same vein was what films Marvel has planned for its untitled slots in 2027.
Perez noted that one of the 2027 movies could be a placeholder for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, should Marvel want to push it back. As for the others, Perez heard that a potential Battleworld movie could be in the works.
“For July 2027, the untitled film could be for a number of things, but it could likely be a date Marvel Studios is holding in case they wish to push back Spider-Man: Brand New Day towards that slot,” said Perez. “Another option I heard is that they want to build a movie set around Battleworld and that could quite frankly be any plot. Doctor Strange 3, World War Hulk and so. So we’ll have to wait and see.”
For those unaware, Battleworld is the name of a planet that serves as the setting for Secret Wars. Various Battleworlds have existed throughout Marvel Comics’ history, including one made by Doctor Doom.
Whether or not a Battleworld movie would be separate from Avengers: Secret Wars is unknown, but Marvel Studios does seem to be setting up for a potential big showdown between Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and the entirety of the MCU.
