Marvel Studios has finally released the trailer for Loki season 2, revealing many new details that some viewers might have missed. After first being announced at the end of Loki season 1, the second season of Tom Hiddleston’s solo MCU adventure has been highly anticipated. While small details had started to surface regarding the Phase 5 series, the release of the first official trailer uncovers more about Loki’s upcoming adventure. After a few disappointing projects in the MCU, many are hoping that Loki season 2 could bring the franchise back to form, and the season’s first trailer has certainly raised expectations.

Taking place in the MCU’s Phase 4, Loki season 1 caught up with the variant of Loki who escaped during the Avengers’ Time Heist in Endgame. Captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA), Loki learned the mysteries of the multiverse and fought alongside his own variant to come face-to-face with He Who Remains, the MCU’s first variant of Kang the Conqueror. After Sylvie killed He Who Remains, the full force of the multiverse was unleashed, informing several subsequent MCU projects. Loki season 2’s first trailer suggests the upcoming season will be just as important to the MCU’s future, as at least ten major details have now been revealed.

10 Ke Huy Quan’s Loki Season 2 Character Mirrors His Oscar-Winning Role

In September 2022, Ke Huy Quan was cast in Loki season 2 as a TVA archivist, whom the trailer has now confirmed to be named “OB,” a.k.a. Ouroboros. Quan’s MCU role comes hot on the heels of his interdimensional role in the Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once, which earned Quan the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Loki season 2’s trailer makes it seem as though OB will be joining Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius on their mission, though the actual scale of his role is yet to be seen. Even so, Quan’s debut in the MCU’s Phase 5 is incredibly exciting.

9 Mobius Might Finally Get His Jet Ski In Loki Season 2

Throughout Loki season 1, Mobius often daydreamed about owning a jet ski, something that he realized he perhaps may have done after learning the truth about the fact that every TVA worker used to be a real person. It seems that Loki season 2 may grant Mobius his wish, as in the trailer’s opening moments, Loki finds himself standing in front of Piranha Powersports, a store that sells jet skis. This moment is shrouded in the mystery of Loki’s time-skipping in the season 2 trailer, which is reminiscent of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s glitching, but it would be a fantastic pay-off if Mobius is finally gifted his yearned-for jet ski.

8 The MCU’s Multiversal War Is Glimpsed In Loki Season 2 (& Could Tease Avengers 5)

In one blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in Loki season 2’s trailer, an image of multiple Kang the Conqueror variants can be seen battling each other. Each sports their comic-accurate purple and green costumes, calling back to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s Council of Kangs, as several Kang variants donned similar armor. He Who Remains revealed the secrets of the multiversal war in Loki season 1, so this piece of art could be referring to the previous battle. However, this could also be teasing the events of Phase 6’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is expected to feature several Kang variants pitted against a new team of Avengers in the MCU.

7 Loki Season 2 Will Return To He Who Remains’ Citadel

He Who Remains’ base, the Citadel at the End of Time, was the primary location for Loki season 1’s finale, “For All Time. Always,” and audiences will be brought back to this enigmatic Citadel in Loki season 2. In a divergence from season 1, however, the Citadel seems far more decrepit than before, with windows smashed in and most of the roof missing, open to the elements of the unraveling multiverse. Sylvie found herself trapped in the Citadel in season 1, but the Citadel could be an even more pivotal location in season 2, as Mobius is also shown embarking on a mission in the shadow of the Citadel.

As well as reintroducing audiences to the versions of characters they already know, Loki season 2 is also expected to feature many more variants of high-profile characters. Several versions of Wunmi Mosaku’s Hunter B-15, Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Ravonna Renslayer, and Eugene Cordero’s Casey can be seen throughout Loki season 2’s trailer, as well as several different versions of Loki and Sylvie, though it’s possible these could be costume changes. Loki season 2 is thought to be exploring the multiverse far more than its predecessor, which creates the opportunity for many interesting variants to appear in the upcoming Phase 5 series.

5 Loki Season 2 Reveals A New Setting

Loki season 2 will not only bring viewers back to the TVA headquarters and He Who Remains’ Citadel at the End of Time, but the season will also introduce some new locations. This includes Midway Plaisance, a setting that Loki and Mobius explore, seemingly in their early 20th Century attire. Midway Plaisance is a real-world park on the South Side of Chicago, and the site was home to the World’s Columbian Exposition, a.k.a. Chicago World’s Fair, in 1893, which shared similarities with the fairground nature of the area in Loki season 2’s trailer. This could be where Loki and Mobius first witness a technological demonstration from Jonathan Majors’ Victor Timely.

4 Loki Season 2’s Trailer Confirms An Unusual Villain Appearance

During one moment in Loki season 2’s trailer, a poster can be seen advertising what appears to be a new film or stage play named “Zaniac!” In Marvel Comics, Zaniac was an entity that originated in the Dark Dimension with the capability to possess humans. Any possessed human hosts possessed would be fueled with bloodlust and the desire to kill women. In the modern era, an actor shooting a horror film – portraying a villain named Zaniac – was possessed in the University of Chicago. This, and the introduction of Chicago’s Midway Plaisance, could tease Zaniac’s introduction in Loki season 2.

Despite Marvel Studios’ silence over recent assault allegations brought against Jonathan Majors, the actor can be seen in Loki season 2’s trailer as Victor Timely, a Kang the Conqueror variant who first appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s post-credits scene. In Marvel Comics, Kang traveled back to 1901 and established the town of Timely, Wisconsin, setting up factories to advance the world’s technologies, attempting a quiet conquest of the Earth long before the Avengers had formed. It’s possible that Majors could portray other variants of Kang in Loki season 2, though it’s unclear exactly how big a role he’ll have in the upcoming series.

2 Miss Minutes Is A Ghost

The official synopsis of Loki season 2, released in June 2023, revealed that Loki would be on the search for various missing characters, including Ravonna Renslayer, Sylvie, and Miss Minutes. Tara Strong voiced the anthropomorphic clock mascot of the TVA in season 1 and is set to return, though with a very different look. In the trailer, Miss Minutes can be seen in the shape of a ghost, perhaps suggesting she has somehow died in the gap between seasons 1 and 2. Not much is known about Miss Minutes’ role in Loki season 2, but with the soul of the TVA in jeopardy, she could have a large role.

1 Ravonna Renslayer Goes To The Void

Several different versions of Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Ravonna Renslayer can be seen throughout Loki season 2’s trailer, including one wielding a weapon, one dressed in 19th/20th Century attire, and one seemingly trapped in the Void. First introduced in Loki season 1, episode 4, “The Nexus Event,” the Void is the place things go when the TVA prunes them. Everything in the Void ends up devoured by Alioth, He Who Remains’ guard, so Judge Renslayer’s appearance in the Void suggests she could be searching for He Who Remains. It’s possible that Loki season 2 could uncover more of her backstory and her potential connection to Kang the Conqueror.
