Spider-Man has always been and will always be one of Marvel’s most beloved and prominent heroes. Because of that, he’s fought some of the most creative and interesting villains in comic book history. With Spider-Man, Venom, and even Penny Parker already featured in Marvel Rivals, fans are wondering which Spider-Man villains might be added to the game in the future.

The wallcrawler has faced a massive array of villains across different levels and scopes, from master thieves to symbiotic aliens. While some of his villains may not always be world-ending super beings, they always leave an impact on both Spidey and the audience. Countless Spider-Man villains would fit perfectly in Marvel Rivals.

Black Cat Is Constantly Switching Between Friend and Foe

First Appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #194

Black Cat and Spider-Man have a love-hate relationship. Felicia Hardy is the daughter of a world-renowned cat burglar, and she trained hard to follow in her father’s footsteps. She was first introduced to be an adversary to Spider-Man, but over time, the pair developed feelings for each other. But even though Black Cat loved Spider-Man, Felicia Hardy typically couldn’t care less for Peter Parker. Over the years, the two have remained allies and continue to take part in an on-again-off-again relationship.

While Black Cat may not be the most super-being on this list, she does have some tricks up her sleeve that would make an amazing kit in Marvel Rivals. Black Cat is incredibly agile and has been trained in various styles of fighting. She wears retractable razor-sharp claws and would be able to get up close and personally as a duelist. Black Cat can also give her opponents bad luck. Maybe in the game, this could translate to her canceling other players’ abilities for a short time.

Sandman Is a Beachgoers’ Worst Nightmare

First Appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #4

Sandman has always been one of Spider-Man’s more prominent villains, appearing in everything from comic books to video games and movies. William Baker, aka Flint Marco, winds up on a beach that is used as a nuclear testing sight, where he is fused with the sand and transformed into the Sandman. He went on to become one of the founding members of The Sinister Six, and even though he sometimes allies with the wall-crawler, Sandman is one of Spider-Man’s most problematic villains.

Sandman has some impressive shapeshifting abilities that would work really well in Marvel Rivals. He is able to turn his body into sand and can mentally control every single grain and shape it into whatever he needs or wants. Sandman could shoot sandy projectiles for range or give himself massive hammer fists for melee. His ultimate goal could be to shoot up out of the ground like Venom’s or do something different, like fire waves of sand in every direction.

Fighting Tombstone Is Like Fighting Stone

First Appeared in Web of Spider-Man #36

Tombstone worked his way up to becoming one of Kingpin’s top hitmen. His real name is Lonnie Lincoln, and he is most associated with Bugle editor Robbie Robertson. Whenever they meet, Tombstone and Spider-Man always have a brutal clash that usually leaves Spidey at least a little bruised. During an attempt to kill Robertson, Tombstone was trapped in an airtight chamber with an experimental gas that gave him superhuman strength and agility.

He would be an interesting addition to Marvel Rivals for a number of reasons. Tombstone is one of those Marvel characters whose strength and durability are their primary abilities. Able to take hits and dish them out, Tombstone would work well as a vanguard with mostly melee abilities, similar to Hulk or Captain America. As one of Spider-Man’s toughest and most unforgiving foes, he would make a strong character in Marvel Rivals.

Electro Is a Powerhouse of Living Energy

First Appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #9

Maxwell Dillon was an electrical engineer who was struck by lightning in a freak accident while repairing some power lines. He was transformed into living electricity and can be charged up like a battery. Electro rejects Magneto’s invitation to join the Brotherhood of Mutants but ends up joining the Sinister Six later. Electro nearly killed Spider-Man in their first encounter, and since then, he has been a massive threat to the webhead.

With his disastrous powers of electricity, Electro would work perfectly as a ranged duelist able to shoot lightning bolts at his opponents. Since he can teleport through electricity, maybe he could teleport to health packs around the map, similar to how Loba used to do in Overwatch. Electro is one of Spider-Man’s more formidable foes and would absolutely fry the competition in Marvel Rivals.

Mysterio Is an Endless Bag of Tricks

First Appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #13

Quentin Beck was stuck in a dead-end, go-nowhere career as a special effects artist, and no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t break into the world of acting. Realizing that his talents in effects and illusions would make him a decent criminal, he decides to rob the Midtown Museum and pins it on Spider-Man. After being thwarted by the wall-crawler, Mysterio later joins up with the Sinister Six in order to take his revenge.

Mysterio has proven himself a formidable foe for Spider-Man, and his nightmarish powers of illusion would make him a fantastic addition to Marvel Rivals. Capable of creating illusions strong enough to trick Spider-Man’s spider-sense, Mysterio could potentially interrupt other characters’ abilities and moves. He might even project illusions that attack enemy players, similar to how Loki uses his clones.

There Isn’t Much That Can Stop Rhino’s Charge

First Appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #41

After willingly undergoing an experimental procedure that gave him a thick artificial skin and superhuman strength, Aleksei Sytsevich was transformed into the Rhino. With his newfound powers, he rebelled against the scientists who created him and began a life of crime. When Spider-Man stopped his attempt to kidnap Colonel John Jameson, Rhino spent years cycling in and out of prison, receiving several augmentations, and battling numerous heroes.

Rhino has appeared in tons of Spider-Man games, including Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Marvel’s Spider-Man. Not only is he a strong character, but fights with him are consistently entertaining. In Marvel Rivals, Rhino would work perfectly as a big, beefy vanguard that could tank hits and deal massive amounts of damage. Since he has a thick hide, he would most likely have a shield ability similar to Venom, and a raging charge attack is almost certain.

The Lizard Is Tragic but Dangerous

First Appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #6

Curt Connors was a geneticist who, in the hopes of restoring his missing arm, was researching the regeneration abilities of reptiles. He tested a serum on himself based on lizard DNA that would allow humans to regrow limbs. It did regrow his arm, but it also turned him into a ferocious humanoid lizard creature that was bent on turning the rest of the world into reptiles. Thanks to Spider-Man, Connors is able to revert back to himself, but the Lizard still comes out regularly.

There are so many things the developers could do with the Lizard if he were added to Marvel Rivals. Since he’s exceptionally strong and bulky and has a regeneration ability, the Lizard could work really well as a vanguard. Maybe he could heal slowly over time, or he could have a shield ability similar to Venom. He could also use his razor-sharp claws and massive tail for attacks. There are so many things that developers could do with him if they added the Lizard to Marvel Rivals.

Carnage Is a Maniacal Psychopath

First Appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #361

Carnage has always been depicted as a maniac who thrives on chaos and madness. The symbiote’s most famous host is Cletus Kasady, a serial killer who bonds with the alien after Venom leaves it behind in a prison cell. Cletus and Carnage’s bond isn’t as strong as Venom and Eddie’s, but because Cletus is so deranged, Carnage becomes more violent and deadlier than Venom. Carnage is so strong that Spider-Man usually needs to team up with others, sometimes even Venom, to take him down.

While Venom makes an excellent Vanguard, Carnage might work better as a duelist. Carnage tends to be depicted as smaller and quicker than Venom, and that would be a good way to set the two symbiotes apart in the game. Just because they have incredibly similar powers doesn’t mean developers can’t make them play completely differently, especially if they’re in separate classes.

Doctor Octopus Built a Team Solely to Take Down Spider-Man

First Appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #3

Doctor Otto Octavius is one of Spider-Man’s greatest villains. A brilliant but unhinged scientist, he fused himself with four mechanical, tentacle-like arms during a laboratory accident. Determined to defeat Spider-Man, Doctor Octopus assembled a team of supervillains known as the Sinister Six. The rivalry between Spider-Man and Doc Ock is legendary; the two of them have even switched bodies.

While Doc Ock may not be superhuman, his extra robotic arms are ridiculously strong and could make for a seriously dangerous set of moves. While Venom has a move that tethers him to opponents, maybe Doc Ock could grab individual enemies, stun them, and then throw them away when he’s done. He’s always seen using his arms to maneuver, so he would most likely have some sort of movement ability. Like in the comics, Doctor Octopus would make a deadly opponent.

The Green Goblin Is Spider-Man’s Most Notorious Villain

First Appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #14

The Green Goblin has always been Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis. Norman Osborn was driven insane and granted superhuman strength and intelligence after exposure to the Goblin Formula. A criminal mastermind, he terrorizes New York City with his dangerous, maniacal schemes and Halloween-themed gadgetry. With no regard for his own life, the Green Goblin is always willing to do whatever it takes to get to Spider-Man.

With some of the most interesting weaponry and gadgets in the comics, the Green Goblin could have an incredible moveset in Marvel Rivals. It would make sense and would be awesome to see him play like Iron Man, constantly flying around on his glider, throwing pumpkin bombs, and shooting rockets. Since much of his strength comes from his tech, his playstyle would naturally focus on ranged attacks and gadgetry rather than melee abilities.
